Legendary A.net Threads

Sat Nov 28, 2015 4:39 pm

This thread is for listing and reminiscing about the legendary a.net threads, and so people will get all of the references long term members throw around.

1. Snowglobes
Friend Flying FL FLL-ATL Friday. (by FLAIRPORT Feb 17 2005 in Non Aviation)

2. Flying Fish
It's All About The Fish (by lightsaber Apr 21 2015 in Civil Aviation)

Airbus Launches A321NEOLR To Replace 757 Part 2 (by 777ER Oct 23 2014 in Civil Aviation)

I can't find the B764 thread but that was a good one too.

Any other good ones?

I liked the thread that (ehm) rose from Jonah Falcon, Man With World's Largest Penis, Frisked By TSA At California Airport but the mods only let it (ehm) stand for a day or two.

The current 'core a.net beliefs' are pretty memorable, IMHO.

That thread was a small revelation to me. I know a.netters can be obsessive, but measuring the absorbency of (airline provided) sanitary napkins, and feigning anger and throwing your blanket to the floor to "test" the f/a smacks of OCD.

I wanted to laugh, but couldn't, because it was all rather disturbing.

But hey - thanks for the read.

Yes, I was present when that one popped up. I still remember the OP name, he is a legendary A.net no longer member, for not all the right reasons.   Someone had to be the OP, and he was there. Hope he's doin' OK these days.

I would add the massive numbers of parts to threads about the losses of AF 447 and MH 570. Both went into and have gone into the high double digits as to parts and likely over 20,000 posts with each.

Of course, one of a certain amount of time here cannot forget the numerous posts related to suggesting certain members or from a part of the UK were into sexual acts with sheep.

A number of years ago, the site had to mature, it became larger and more diverse as to its membership (except as to women) so it had to be more carefully mediated and some of the legendary threads would no longer be allowed.

I find the threads involving AF447 and MH370 epic, and they are too many to list them. For days and days and days, nothing else was discussed than:
- Airbii are death traps, because the sidesticks are inherently flawed! I only trust the planes built by Mr. Wilhelm Böing!
- I'm totally sure MH370 was kidnapped and is hidden somewhere, something else couldn't have happened!

I've actually seen something like that on another forum (where someone was posting under multiple usernames as a way to seem like he had allies/defenders). Very entertaining when you figure it out and push the person into a mistake.

Had a fairly epic disagreement with a member who rarely posts anymore a few years ago.
A flight test engineer no less according to him.

His (rather incredible) position was that a 757 could be ferried on one engine.
No amount of logic could dissuade him.

And of course the endless discussions purporting the perfection of automation
with no more need for human pilots. That will continue i'm sure.
