Hello

I was wondering, what is the largest passenger ship, that you have seen in person?

For me

From a distance, an Oasis class Ship.

Close up, the MSC Fantaisa.

Both while on board the USS Harry S. Truman.

PS, I still hoping to see the RMS Queen Mary 2 in person one day.

Coincidentally, I saw the QM2 on Friday morning. It's not the greatest photo, but you can see her hiding in the background:

Sadly she was docked at Jellicoe Wharf which means that there was no way of getting a photo from much closer. I've also seen her on a couple of previous visits.

I've seen the QM2 here in HK.

The most impressive passenger ship I've seen is still the Stena HSS concept. It carried 1500 Pax and

I see the QM2 at least every year when she comes to Sydney.

In fact, I saw MS Queen Victoria in Sydney a few hours ago when I drove over the Harbour Bridge.

It looked awesome with purple lights illuminating the entire ship!

Sometimes the QM2 and either the Queen Victoria or Queen Elizabeth pass each other in Sydney Harbour.

The largest I've seen is the Queen Victoria... definitely. I may have seen one of the 'Independence of the Seas' ships, but given that I live in Southampton I should really have seen more. The ships are never in when I'm available, and I missed the chance to see the 3 Queens enter and depart in formation. I was gutted!

I saw Allure in Miami while I was boarding Celebrity Silhouette. She was docked closeby. She is still (by one inch over her sister) the largest passenger ship in the world, at least of those ships that have been delievered. (Harmony will be ~2.5 meters longer and her structure is complete, but she is still being fitted out for delivery in May 2016).

You won't see Oasis much longer as she gets ready to move to Port Canaveral! You'll at least get Harmony in her stead. For me, it's Oasis as well. We cruised on her in October. What a ship! We've never actually seen Allure in person but I think my wife wouldn't mind getting to know her (or Harmony) in the near future!

But I whole heartedly agree. What a ship! My girlfriend and I were on the ship just over a year ago and I still think about the experience many times. I really want to go on another cruise whenever financially possible. Next time with Allure or Harmony. For us, the big benefit of Oasis was the size. So much to do and see and we really liked the open areas in the middle of the ship.

QM2. In fact I made two cruises with her. Since then no other cruise ship can raise my interest. Next cruise will be QM2 again, for sure. I am planning for a TA, but other holiday plans currently prevent me from doing so before at least mid-2017.

MSC Fantasia. Sailed her for a week last year. Whenever we were in port, she dwarfed everything else. Was definitely a sight to behold at a distance. I also very recently saw the MSC Musica from the air, docked in Dubai port, and she looked pretty big.

In terms of sailing, the RCCL Navigator of the Seas which we took twice - once out of Rome and once out of Galveston.

I was on the USS Long Beach when the Queen Mary arrived at the end of her last cruise, We were actually the "official welcoming ship" got to sail out in the middle of thousands of small boats.

I also passed her every day for months leaving the Naval Base when she was in dry dock. I would look her over but never thought to grab a camera.

Have to admit I love my cruise ships as much as my planes. I did my first cruise over 20 years ago and back then everyone thought that someone that young going on a cruise ship was weird. It was a totally different market back then and less accessible. I was hooked from day one though. Nothing like being at sea and I doubt I would enjoy a land based holiday as much these days. As you can see I started out on RCI and got to Diamond level with them doubt I will ever be Pinnacle though as I like to try different lines rather than just stick to one. I can certainly see myself getting top status with Cunard though I will never get tired of those ships especially the QM2. I am Gold at the moment. Really need to do another TATL

I was on the Carnival Conquest a couple of weeks ago and we were parked next to Oasis of the Seas both in Ft Lauderdale and Cozumel Mexico

Being in Miami I've seen just about all of them whether at Miami or Port Everglades.

Bonus is my view from my office. Love Fridays watching the ships leave port in the evening, also lots of seaplane action too.

No need to think really.Cunard wins hands down. I know there are some very premium lines in that list namely Crystal and Silversea but I just fell in love with Cunard from day one. Just the whole product and experience especially on the QM2 is unique.

I love all the cruise ships I go on though with some exceptions. It is great to experience the different ones from 3*-5*. Just like hotels you pick one that suits the type of holiday you want.There is so much choice these days. Love the new Princess ships and HAL ships too.

Costa would certainly go into my 3* category. They may call themselves a 4* but I have my own grading

Carnival is one I have never done and not sure I will. If they had a mini 2 night cruise I might go for curiosity but I would not go out of my way. With a Carnival cruise it would certainly be a case of wanting to try before I buy !

The biggest passenger ship I've been on would be the Queen Mary at Long Beach (I stayed overnight on her last June).

The largest one I've cruised on is Carnival Fascination (I sailed on her in June 2001).

The largest one I've seen from land would be one of Princess Cruise Line's Grand class ships, when it was in dry dock in San Francisco. I lived at the UCSF Mission Bay campus (Mission Bay/China Basin area), and from there I could see the dry dock where ships would often come in for repair or maintenance.

This coming August, I will be on Norwegian Cruise Line's new megaship Escape, for a cruise.

Some ro-ro ferries in NAP harbor. Two stories of trucks in the belly, but I can't name the ships.

Explorer of the Seas. I used to enjoy catching the train at Circular Quay station of an evening - I've seen the large Cunard fleet, a few Celebrities, two or three Silverseas, a bunch of Holland Americas, Princesses (my mum's on the Dawn next month) and P&Os (current Oriana and Arcadia the largest.

Not a cruise fan - never been on any of these ships, but have been on the Stena HSS (way back upthread)
