Agreed. The problem is not Melania. Whatever level of intellect or linguistic mastery she may or may not have is irrelevant because she gives The Donald what he wants. Nobody expects these speeches to be written by anyone but a speech writer, which is the real problem and speaks volumes.

Yes it was Plagiarized. Those couple of paragraphs matched Obama's speech word for word! I think the response to the was worse than the plagiarizing. Instead on owning up to it (like Obama did) the Trump campaign denied she lifted the speech, then blamed Hillary saying that when a woman threatens Hillary Clinton, she tries to demean her and take her (Melania) down.

It is typical of the Trump campaign when they get caught doing something wrong. Deny, deny, deny then blame someone else!

You didn't care that Biden plagiarized his way through law school, plus his political speeches, that Obama and Michele both plagiarized - and we aren't talking about 2 little lines - big passages. And the two lines contained pretty standard stuff - golden rule stuff like "you work hard for what you want in life, that your word is your bond and you do what you say and keep your promise, that you treat people with respect." Didn't we all get that speech as kids, in exactly those words? I sure did.

I know that part of Mr. Obama's speech was lifted one time. Also about the same amount as what Mrs. Trump said. It wasn't his convention speech, though. And he promptly apologized for it himself, although it was probably a speech writer's error.

As for the other accusation, I'll need citations (and Breitbart isn't an acceptable one. I'll accept Fox, WSJ and other major outlets.)

The speech was obviously plagiarized; however the blame falls in Donald's lap. He is the one that created the campaign organization, he hired the staff and set the standards they operate under. By the way, this is the same quality of management we should expect of a Trump administration if they were dealing with China, Russia or whoever in a military standoff al la Cuban missile crisis or some such thing, (should Trump win in November). However it happened, the professional political staff was responsible for making sure that whatever was shown on that teleprompter had been vetted and double checked by grown ups, and in the political world surrounding a presidential bid, Melania, pretty face and all, could not be considered one of the grownups.

What she said in Madison, Wisconsin on February 18, 2008: "for the first time in my adult lifetime, I am really proud of my country". There is also the context behind that statement to consider, the context of the statement within the speech and the context of the life of a black woman who was born and raised on the south side of Chicago.

I grew up in that city. In the southside of Chicago I grew up in, an integrated neighborhood was defined as the span of time between when the first black family moved in and the time the last white family moved out.


Twisting Michelle's words was a low thing to do.

W.F. Buckley came forward as the speech writer and he is the author of the original words. While what he did is not ethically suspect, it would still make me very cross if I were Mr. Trump. For the speech writer to have to identify himself because he reused his own words makes it seem as if the entire campaign has no original thoughts.

I don't care. They're a distraction. She made a poor choice from a bunch of poor options. Her other option was not to have E-mail at all, basically, being only able to use it from secure wired stations within State Department facilities. That would mean she'd be out of touch with a lot of current events when she was on the road, which was almost always.

But it looks as if the speech writer's draft didn't include those words. So Mrs. Trump added them herself. And I can only imagine that 1) She knows where those words came from and 2) She's not as dumb as people think she is. Is she sabotaging her husband's white house aspirations? What does THAT say about the campaign?

I had brought my Obama T-shirt to New Zealand and the next morning after the election I put it on. Random passers-by on the street were literally walking up to me and asking if I was American. The reception when I was back in Australia the next day was the same. People would hear my accent: "Are you American?" Yes. "Did you vote for Obama?" Yes. "Congratulations, mate!"

I am proud of my country when we do the right thing and the Obama Presidency was the right thing. If Donald Trump wins in November, I will be ashamed of my country. That doesn't mean I don't love it. Any parent has been ashamed of their child and yet still loves their child. But it means that I will admit when my country has done something wrong. There is no greater love than honesty.

OK all first ladies want World Peace. What else is there to think until someone says something offensive. Some have pet causes. Eleanor Roosevelt was a Social Justice person. Lady Bird Johnson wanted to keep billboards out of the countryside. Hillary Clinton was interested in health care. Michelle Obama has taken on childhood nutrition. Not much there except for grumbling about lunches tasting like cardboard, which is really nothing new.

What is more amazing is that someone was obsessed enough to remember words from Michelle Obama's speech in 2008;. I didn't watch either speech and never voted on First Lady.

I have thought that on several occasions, or maybe just doesn't want the job if he has to be careful what he says. More likely he is being blunt in a calculated way. His primary target has been other Republicans and it has brought forward Republican voters who were tired of the then-current Republican dogma.

She's listed as a co-author on many Trump books. She's a registered Democrat.

If this is the way they handle a minor scandal, I can't wait to see how they handle a real one.

It's highly amusing to watch the campaign impload over a simple mis-step. But highly disturbing as well. GW Bush's admin was awful because it took them months or years to admit they were wrong. Can you imagine a Trump admin? They would start a war and allow thousands and thousands of Americans to die because they refuse to back down, or admit they made a mistake.

I popped over to Breitbart to see what the wing nut take on this whole thing was and they are currently up in arms over Ted Cruz's speech tonight. Darn near 1/3 of the comments are anti-Semitic to a degree it makes me physically ill.
