Media commercials - life is good!

I have to admit that I spend too much time in front of my television, computer and phone. Just started to notice that it is amazing how the media bombards with us commercials and images that show us perfect families, people driving beautiful cars, great looking women and men and basically a world without problems for the users of their customer's products. In reality, day-to-day life for many of us is all about conflicts, dysfunctional families and friends, economic hardship and many other problems.

Sorry for the rant but I am curious as to what others think about how the media pictures our world. Do you think they are doing a disservice to society by presenting the world in such a positive light or are you neutral in the matter?

Thanks for your responses.

Maybe you should get out and talk a walk for 1/2 an hour. Admire the fall colors coming soon if you're in Texas. Perhaps it's also time to reevaluate your hours spent on e-crap. If you can't let your cell phone ring without answering it, or feel guilty about it, regardless of who might be calling.....you have a problem. If my boss texts or emails after 6....I don't respond until the next day. I might (MIGHT) answer up until 8:00 pm if it was a once a year occasion. Remember, YOU are in charge of your electronic behavior.

Thanks for the advice! What I have started doing recently is totally disconnect from my phone, tablet and computer from 6 am to 6 pm on Sundays. I have found the experience refreshing and helps to clear up my thought life. Now the next step is to cut down on the TV watching and get outside more and do more book reading.

Considering at every commercial break in the US there is at least one pharmaceutical being shoved in your face, I have to disagree. It can make one think everyone is so unhealthy and toxic with the amount of pills they are taking and how it has morphed into a multi-TRILLON dollar industry. And then to hear the side effects being read out loud, almost all of which include seizures and death. Some of the people look active and smiling of course but I wouldn't say there are beautiful people in the commercials.

I think commercials were more like that in times past, when the US had less problems. Remember the Bugle Boy jeans commercials?. It sounds like what you are describing. A very hot girl wearing sunglasses racing a luxury sports car down a desolate highway passes some fit male model looking dude wearing jeans and a tee. She slams on her breaks and skids down the road, does a lightening fast 180, pulls up beside him, very calmly and seductively asks "Excuse me, are those bugle boy jeans you are wearing?" He responds, "Why yes, they are bugle boy jeans". She pauses for a moment and says "Thank you." before tearing out of their in her high performance sports car. This was late 80s through early 90s. All commercials were about sex then it seemed, before the drug companies hijacked the airwaves and convinced everyone they are sick and before everyone got so paranoid about healthcare. I am sure they are related, they drug companies got richer raised their prices the government continually kept getting more involved further pushed up the cost.

There were many variations of that commercial, it went on for years, which is why it was easy to remember verbatim. Here is one, minus the sunglasses. She has a very sexy voice I think..

Get some weed into you brother, you'll chill out in no time.

I second hand smoked it with my ex and her family, and I tell you now the problems melt away.
