Podcast recommendations ...

Thu Mar 23, 2017 3:29 am

I've listened to

AirplaneGeeks - so-so

Aviation Week - very good

OmegaTau - excellent - contains podcasts on many other technical topics including many aviation areas of interest

HowStuffWorks - terrible ... too geeky to be enjoyable ( IMHO )

Any recommendations from other people out there ??

TIA

The new AVtalk by FlightRadar24 shows promise.
Omega Tau 's aviation episodes are really great.
Recently stumbled upon YankeeFlyer, I like it.
Aviation Xtended is on a hiatus I think but I always listen.
Really like Dots Lines and Destinations

Finally, shameless plug, I produce Layovers. Only commercial aviation. Feedback appreciated!

http://www.layovers.to or look for Layovers on pretty much all the podcast services and SoundCloud.

I listen to Airline Weekly Lounge and it's a pretty good rundown of the airline business

Not at all aviation related, but if you're a hockey fan or just a comedy fan in general, the Steve Dangle Podcast is a prime choice.

I enjoy Freakanomics Radio podcasts and, related to this forum, offer

http://freakonomics.com/podcast/pilot/

Patrick Smith, the author of Cockpit Confidential, answers every question we can throw at him about what really happens up in the air. Just don’t get him started on pilotless planes — or whether the autopilot is actually doing the flying.

There is no shameless plugging of the book in the podcast

If you are looking for podcasts with topics other than aviation:

Slate.com has some very good ones. I would recommend anything by Mike Pesca. And, if you're interested in SCOTUS, Dahlia Lithiwick's podcasts are invaluable.

Dan Savage's "Savage Lovecast" is the best sex advice podcast you'll ever hear and it's quite entertaining.

I would also recommend "This American Life," which produces weekly podcasts containing (usually) 3 essays/stories on the same theme or topic.

And "Wait, Wait, Don't Tell Me!," which is an hilarious recap of the week's news in gameshow format. Always funny.
"If I don't manage to fly, someone else will. The spirit wants only for there to be flying. As for who happens to do it, in that he has only a passing interest."
- R.M. Rilke
