'Vacay'
'Could care less'
'like' (used as every second word)
'literally' (when used incorrectly)

along with most other valley-girl-airhead-related phrases.

Here's a twofer:

My wife hates "Asshole!!!" when she hears me use it.

I hate "God is soooo good!" when I hear her use it.

She used it when being interviewed by a TV reporter after our house/property had been damaged in a storm, and she gave it as the reason we were not injured. I wondered why this "soooo good" entity permitted the damage in the first place :-)

About four years ago almost every person in the service industry started replying with "Perfect" or "Ok Perfect" to any question you answer.

Overnight in the US, it became the UK equivalent of "Brilliant" which I find equally annoying and meaningless.

No, the use in this situation is shortening the word "baby." Your "bae" is probably your significant other.

I had a young person explain to me the other day that bae is actually an acronym they used instead of "better than all else".

It only sounded slightly less stupid when she explained it that way.

Describing something as the best "EVER": This is the best pizza, EVER!
Describing something from the past that has become popular again as "iconic": The music from the 80s is so iconic
The increasing acceptance of the using the "F" word in day to day conversation: no example necessary
Like using like the the word like, like in every sentence: Like you know like what I mean like don't you?

Maybe not quite staying with the thread but the annoying habit American females between the age of 15-40 have ending every sentence in a question and spoken in that annoying monotone "Daria" voice....Ugh! :
"yesterday my dog was hit by a car?"
"I was stuck in traffic?"

Being referred to as "dude" or "bro" by anyone.

"Elites"
"Liberals" and "Conservatives"
"Gluten-free"
Not one particular phrase but all these pseudo-philosophical quotes about people's love for travelling, especially when posted under an instagram picture of Panama City Beach (for Americans) or Mallorca (for Europeans).

Concerning "bae" I had always thought it was just a short form for baby or babe but I've recently learned it's supposedly an acronym for "before anyone else"...

Not an internet one, but a term that makes me nuts at work is "going forward" when used to mean "from now on." Example: Instead of contacting me for this item, please email our sales department going forward.

"Fanboy", a word that's used regularly on here, and I don't know where it came from. Of course then you have to have "Fangirl". They sound like kiddie words, yet always make me think of ladyboys. What's wrong with the gender-neutral, shorter and more practical "Fan"?

Not so much a word, but style, again used over and over again on here. People type "easyJet", and "bmi", which are merely logos. People even use them at the start of sentences and paragraphs, for chrissakes. What's wrong with Easyjet and BMI? More logical, simpler and cleaner. If you're going to use the former, you also need to type AIRFRANCE or RYANAIR, and so on, to be consistent, otherwise it's just a silly affectation.

All it is is just a lazy way to say "babe" when referring to ones boy/girlfriend.

Chalk me up for "bae" also, as well as Beyoncé's "slay" (omg internet explorer just automatically put the tilde on top of the e in her name...), "fire" when they mean something is cool, the dreaded YOLO, as well as many others I see my millennial comrades use on social media.

"Some", when used in the context of "some 30 people were killed" or " the truck travelled some 10 miles".

No idea why, but it is more than a bit annoying to me. It's not even slang, just plain old English.

"Y'all" isn't as much of a word, to me, as it is a regional pronunciation. I find myself saying it sometimes, having lived in the deep south for some of my formative years. It's not that different than any other regional "word" meaning a group of people. Youse, Yous, and Y'all, for example, all mean the same thing, basically, but just come from different parts of the US.

Do you mean a lollipop? If "yes," then... why do you dislike when people call them "candy?" Isn't that just a more general word for what a lollipop is?

I had to look up (Google) cooking with grits! This being an international forum, a good place to learn new words or phrases. Definition I came up with: a dish of coarsely ground maize kernels boiled with water or milk. Coarsely ground maize kernels used to make grits.

I agree the comment about swearing. If it is used in regular everyday language, in nearly every sentence uttered, it is just unclassy and crass. Not to mention out of context. :footinmouth:
