I have a feeling Trump's douchebaggery will reach unfathomable new heights in 2018. It doesn't seem possible really since the heights he reached in 2017 were already new and uncharted territory, but he has the skillset and the determination of the world's undisputed #1 asshole of all-time.

If aviation is so safe under Trump, why is he setting out to change it by privatizing air traffic control?

Maybe he thinks that ATC services compete on................... safety. Or he thinks that ATC is a lucrative business, which should be opened to investors.

I, too, have been very strict on commercial aviation this past year.

Obviously I deserve at least 58% of the credit for the safe year.

If I didn't know any better I would say this was done purposely on his part to distract from real issues. When it comes down to it this is anything but.

People like Trump always have an urge to portray themselves in a good light. They can never look at themselves in a critical way. They are the real snowflakes.

Oy, I have to admit you're totally right.

After all, the POTATUS has tremendous and unrivalled taste in selecting the aircraft he flies in - who can say that he regularly flies 747-200 in 2017, and a 757 in 2016, no less?

You clearly do not understand the correlations between my actions and aviation safety. I have been strict with commercial aviation, and aviation has been safe. I do not know how to be any clearer.

The other 42% is an even split between Trump and Bill Gates, who I understand is single-handedly responsible for Lion Air not overrunning a runway in 2017.

Holy cow, I looked that one up and they actually haven't had any overruns since early 2016. I guess it's time to start shorting Boeing stock!

I'm glad somebody finally noticed the big fat "zero", although his friends usually call him "Mr President, Sir"

But seriously, zero deaths is totally correct; the six you are talking about (& some others) don't actually count because they weren't US citizens. I mean like where is Sydney anyway?

Now, as I'm sober again, I understand your point.

Yes, apart from adhering to communication protocols, taking weather into account, carefully planning, seriously proceduring procedures, circumnavigating plane-eating mountains, keeping the paws off TAWS, what have our pilot friends done for aviation safety???

They were just lucky guys! Nothing more!

In contrast, Trump accidentally discovered the principles of radar when he pried open the microwave oven!

He should have appointed his 757 pilot ("Great guy, knows a lot about planes, believe me") as FAA Chief. Then definitely he could claim credit.

What happened to Trump's plan to privatize ATC?

First off, the thanks for safety needs to go to those who deserve it, make aviation their careers and passion, and who deal with hundreds of thousands of people each day. Pilots, mechanics, flight attendants ground and counter staff, air traffic, rampers. Security among only a few who deserve thanks.

The safethy is attributable to these fine people and only these dedicated professionals. Thank you all for keeping us safe and getting us home.

I look forward to another grear year in 2018. Anyone who minimizes these incredibly dedicated professionals needs to re-evaluate tneir existance as a human being.

Thank you all again.

What a bunch of whiny snowflakes you all are. I wonder how many of you are actually voting American citizens. 1.) Yes, he is strict on aviation. That's a good thing. 2.) He didn't take credit - he said he's strict, and then stated a fact. I never got the impression that he took credit.

Completely irrelevant.

In what way is he stricter on aviation safety than Obama?

2.) He didn't take credit - he said he's strict, and then stated a fact. I never got the impression that he took credit.

Hmmm. I'm not sure Gates has really been strict enough with aviation to warrant candidacy. I mean, preventing Lion Air from overruns is a huge undertaking, but it's just one airline.

I did it for the kittens. Every time you don't vaccinate, a kitten is thrown into a river, big pharma gains more patents and licenses, and new viruses are created, like the Chikunebola virus (a combination of the Chikungunya and Ebola viruses).

So yes. It was no biggie :praise:

Everytime I see someone say “snowflake”, I cringe because it’s become so cliché. A go to word for the right who’re constantly seeking an injection of new and offensive names to throw at people. Wait a minute....

all three incidents were on foreign carriers.....interestingly, the bordering ones.

He may not be responsible for aviation safety but he's surely responsible for the falling rate of 'fecundity ' in France just announced in the news. After seeing him on the news would you want to procreate?!?

Itis an English word but it's also the word used in the official French reports. Ever since the decimation of WW2 the French have been avidly tracking their national fecundity.

the best was the year when it was reported as:

Great news: our population has increased by 10,000
Bad news: our unemployment has increasd by 9,000

And there was no apparent link!

(these were consecutive news items)
