I happen to disagree with many of those exceptions.

Citizens should have the right to sue individuals who make false claims etc. There should be no government limits.

So you are in the anarchy party?

lol no. I just think speech should be completely unrestricted.

Its not the government's job to regulate it. Let individuals decide.

The government, of the people, by the people , and for the people, has a vested interest in regulating free speech where people are threatened and put into unsafe positions. Especially when individuals that are the targets of such free speech are incapable of rationally deciding on their own the difference of a threat vs non-threat.

Yeah, but who decides what is threatening, dangerous, or offensive? That's a rhetorical question.

You think that NRA commercial should be banned. While I disagree with the content 100% I think banning it is an awful and scary thing.

I think it should be banned from google ads. If the NRA wants to host it on their site, they can do so. However it is a scary road the NRA is on lately. It is less about civil rights, and more about hate and lies.

The problem with that is people start voting with their dollars and companies complain.

Look at the evangelical bakers who went out of business because they refused to bake a cake. They used their First Amendment rights and so did their clientele. Look at North Carolina. The legislature banned trans people from using the bathrooms they are comfortable with and they lost millions of dollars.

If their business fails due to them being bigoted idiots then that's great- the market spoke. The NC legislature issue isn't a speech issue IMO. The government overstepped- which is my point.

The cake case was very interesting and I understand both sides completely. Should businesses be required to sell items off the shelf/menu to customers? Yes. Should a business owner be forced to create art for someone or something they abhor? I'm not so sure. Should an artist be required to paint a portrait of two gay men having sex if asked? Should a carpenter be forced to build an addition for the westboro baptist church? How is that different than using a skill to bake a custom cake? Is it?

What do you think?

There is a huge difference between "I really don't have time to do it" and "My god tells me I can not do that for you sinners so change your ways to my beliefs and I can work with you."

I guess their mistake was being honest. Just lie about why you're denying service and you're all good.

It is better to tell a white lie and avoid litigation. Plus, no risk in being shut down due to no business. Also, if they want to be a private business that sells only to members, they can do that. Nothing wrong with that, either.

You create complexity and convolution that will eventually bite you. ( and/or your society.)

gun death, underage pregnancies, religious mantra .... all have some foundation in misrepresenting some hard facts and acting on that misrepresentation.

That is already the case. People are so insistent that the Bible is law that some use the Bible to hate and damage others, then scream they are being persecuted when called out. Guns are everywhere because Second Amendment has been interpreted to allow that. Underage pregnancies have been going on since the dawn of time, so I don't see how that has anything to do with anything.

I also believe in free speech. Unless you are threatening someone, get on a box in the commons and talk! Or blog...
You only have the first amendment with the 2nd. If you're not going to offend someone with what you say, you don't have the 1st.

Maybe look beyond your national borders? There are rather pronounced differences.

Meaning? Other First World countries have lower rates of pregnancy and lower rates of gun violence and have strong separation of church and state. Could you expand your thought, please?
