What part of "she's not an official in charge of anything or responsible for official duties" eludes you?

Bribery requires payment in exchange for an official exercising their official duties in a way that benefits the person providing the bribe.

Which you know, but are conveniently choosing to ignore. I'd expected more from you; just admit you're wrong so I can get back to at least respecting your intellect.

Let's break down the timeline:

TRump plays around with a porn star.
TRump campaigns.
TRump pays her $130,000 and makes her sign a contract to not say anything
TRump campaigns.

The contract, BTW, was "by taking this money, you will not say anything about me cheating on my third wife and, if you do, you have to pay back the $130,000 and I get to sue you."

It actually sounds like you defend bribery in this case. Sad.

It could be argued that her official duty was entertainment of government officials. Stretching it, I know, but we are talking about lawyers, after all....

You can't "make" anyone sign a contract; aren't you an attorney? Don't you know that?

No bribery took place since she holds no office or official position where the payment was specifically to influence the duties of that office or position.

We're done here. Or at least you are. ;)

She was paid in October of 2016 to keep her mouth shut about his affair. Why is it so hard for you to admit that was wrong? Paying someone to keep quiet? Also, follow the money. Where did that money come from? There is legal implications with that.

I know you want so desperately for tRump to be all holy and saintly and honest but all it is is desperate on your part.

NOW you are done. :)

Why is it so hard for you to admit that it's not illegal? Whether or not it was "wrong" is subjective, and frankly, absolutely irrelevant.

And with that, we're done. Buh-bye now.

Was it under oath?

No?

Then it's not illegal.

Yes, there are things about President Trump I find distasteful or don't agree with, but many of his views align with what are priorities to me:

o A strong military
o Widening the tax base through reduced corporate and personal income taxes
o Moderate to conservative justices on the Supreme Court
o Border security

Should he actually commit an honest-to-God crime, my opinion of him may change at that point, but any non-criminal activity he did in his personal life before he took the oath of office isn't my business and I'm unconcerned with it.

About non-criminal behavior in his personal life before he became President? Nope.

Show me an honest-to-God crime that the man committed before or after taking the oath of office, including lying under oath in a criminal or civil proceeding, and I'd have a different opinion.

Ha ha. Should be renamed the liberals wet dream thread. Trump ain’t going anywhere.
Liberals and the media (one and the same) have overreached and made the same mistakes they made in 2016.

Your hatred has only made Trump more powerful! Ha ha.

The same investigation has been going on and indictments have already been handed down. Others have pleaded The Fifth. For the same investigation. Now, go do a little research and, with all of that hatred you all have for "liberals" and Hillary and find out how many indictments were handed down for all of her investigations? Find out how many times the scope of investigating her changed? How often did she whine about not answering questions?

The Stormy payment was certainly illegal under campaign finance laws as an in-kind donation of something of value, as Rudy has essentially agreed that it was.

If you want to state it's a "witch hunt," disagree with the law itself, claim Trump didn't know about it, or cynically claim that every other president has done the same or worse before so by that standard Trump should get a pass, then fine. But the payment coming in late October 2016--10 years after the fact--was no coincidence.

MSP's typical mindless whataboutism is completely without proportion or perspective. This guy lies on a daily basis several orders of magnitude more than any of his modern predecessors . . . he is an expert in gaslighting intended to rile up his delusional base and to prop up his corrupt presidency. But, you know . . . why would that matter coming from the President of the United States?

I believe so too (although those consequences seem to be few and far between now), but that's not the root of the debate.

Here's a quiz for you. Let's take two hypothetical Presidents. One is "squeaky clean" and has never lied. The other you can't trust a word he/she says. But the truth-teller doesn't share the same political values as you, and his/her actions are detrimental to your lifestyle and country as a whole. Meanwhile the untrustworthy liar may say whatever, but his/her actions are much closer to your political values and improve your life and country. Who do you support and vote for?

That is, I think, an American perspective, in The Netherlands, for instance, it does have consequences. Last "victim" our last secretary of foreign affairs for instance.

Did you learn that in church, MSP? Boy would Jesus be proud of the moralistic stand you took! Such hypocrisy is definitely in line with His teachings and actions.

Hypotheticals aren't "quizzes," MSP, but why would I assume you would think differently given your selectiveness when it comes to which facts you believe?

If you're an ideologue (which you are by admission), you're an ideologue. Enough said. No point in arguing then, except I get a good laugh out of you guys on a daily basis. It'll catch up with you, don't worry.

Er, yeah. Count me in as I'm "afraid" and "caught." EEEK!

Look MSPNWAnything goes . . .

You can have your policy position without defending the President. Hell, you can even be "against" the President and hope that you get a guy who comes way closer to embodying your "values" as President. Somehow, however, you feel the need to interject "whatabout" sh*t every chance you can. I applaud your transparency for essentially saying, you're a "Do as I say and not as I do" kind of guy--you know, in the great spirit of Jesus.

Logic indeed.

I will answer this "it never happened but" question:

This says a lot about the tRump voter and the mind of them. They refuse to accept their guy is awful. They are presented with all the evidence and their whole argument is "well, at least I didn't vote for her!" That's it. That is their whole rebuttal.

Can't even base debate in fact. They have to resort to "what if" and name calling and side tracking.

The United States actually has had squeaky clean candidates, many times. I voted for the one I felt was better suited to the job. We all did, before 2016. Shall I go down the list of squeaky clean candidates?

Obama/Romney
Obama/McCain
Bush/Kerry

So why don't you answer your own question, MSP? Which would you choose out of the false equivalence? Out of the two that do not exist, which do you choose? The rest of us live in the real world but tell us your fantasy win.

Hehe, more desperate deflection. And clearly you fail to understand what a false equivalence is and isn't. My question isn't even an equivalence! Why should I have to answer my own question first? Are you so afraid of it that you're demanding the cook eat his own food first before the king does?

Even though I know you're deflecting, I have nothing to hide, so let's talk about it. For those that are reading this thread from the shadows, I'll tell you why no one from the one side wants to answer the question.

If you choose A, then you'll be exposed of irrational thought. It's simply illogical to support someone who doesn't share your values and hurts your way of life simply because they say all the right things. It's like trusting a continuous cheater simply because they don't lie about their actions. I'd love to see someone try to defend that position. So let's look at the other side. If you choose B, there's another problem. Now you've admitted that what really matters is actions, not words. Sure, it would be nice to have this perfect person to vote for, but that choice doesn't exist. With Trump, let's say he is this extraordinary liar that you describe. Although that's far from an ideal character trait, words from authorities apart from personal communication don't materially affect lives--actions do. Logically a person should base their support based on what a person does, not what they say. So even if Trump is the liar some claim him to be, if his actions most closely reflect your values and improve the country among the available options, then that's the logical reasoning behind a support/no support decision. What isn't logical is listening to hypocritical political adversaries pressure you into not basing your support on actions that actually affect your life and future. In it is their logical error - that if you don't change your support about a person based on an action, it means you don't have a problem with that action.

If someone better comes along, and I hope there will be next time, then it's wise to support that person instead. But that isn't the present state. Your intolerance for opposing views is only galvanizing those views. Now that I've answered the call, let's see your answer for the record.

If Donald Trump had run as a democrat.... and face it, that's very possible. He used to be a democrat and favored democratic politicians for a long time... I would have been interested at first, but if he started behaving the way he did and pulling all those same bullshit antics as he did, to accompany the glaring lack of intellect and temperament, there would be zero chance he had my vote or support in November. Excuse those of us who have standards.

You ask a question and you refuse to answer but I am the one deflecting? wow.... just.... wow....

Answer YOUR question: A or B. No deflection, no rationalization, no dissertation, no links. A or B. You posed the question, so it should be easy for you to answer your own question.

Trump isn't a Democrat or a Republican. He is a party Pooper. The Republican party was taken over by him - that's how little people think of the Republican party. And he beat the Democrats - that's what people think of THAT.

About the thread topic, if this 500k rumor is real, it certainly looks like a potential presidency ender. It is these kinds of specifics (if true) that will put the Trump presidency at an end.

Pence will be harder to get rid of! Especially using compromising photos with women. Won't be easy! :)

Yes, I agree with you there, Pence will have zero appeal to the Trump voters who got him elected . . . working class whites who hadn't voted in several election cycles. Same with Ted Cruz, but he continues to live in a dreamworld with the same taint as Pence due to his subsequent shameless a*s-kissery.

We know who Pence is and what he wants. He is very dangerous and even moderate Republicans will not stand for it. WHEN tRump is finally removed, Pence will not be able to do a damn thing. He will not even be able to run for president on his own. He will face the same end as Santorum.

This Stormy issue won’t go anywhere with Trump fans. If anything, they think he’s an even bigger stud than before. I’m sure lots of deplorables have to buy women.......and men for that matter.

Respecting women is what liberal pansies do. You can only MAGA by p*ussy grabbin and cheating on your wife. Its what manly big studs do! Seeking consent is for PC adoring weaklings.

Trump's ego will mean he would be unlikely to resign. I fear that as the criminal accusations keep increasing, House investigations with the Democrats in the narrow majority early next year piling on more against Trump and impeachment proceedings start, Trump will do something really stupid like with Israel start bombing the nuke research facilities in Iran. Then Trump would say 'we are at war, we must suspend any and all investigations of me indefinitely'. He would likely rile up his supporters to go ballistic, literally, on those that want to take him down. There is still the issue of getting the 67 votes in the Senate to convict President Trump to remove him from office that is his firewall.
We must give as little respect to Trump as possible, make it clear he is not wanted, do acts of civil disobedience and protests, make our House and Senate members do their job to curb the abuses of Trump and work on new laws to prevent another Trump like idiot from ever becoming President.

Resign to save his kids? He doesn't even love his kids. Just as his father didn't love him and left him with a crippling abandonment issue leading to his massive superiority complex and attention whoring.

Donald Trump only loves himself. He is the only thing he ever thinks about and obsesses about. He pathologically requires constant attention. He'd prefer to remain the rest of his presidency under a barrage of negative media attention than risk falling into media and public oblivion. At least he'd still be center stage, which is the only thing cares about.

He is just not smart enough to resign.

Mueller / SDNY may charge Trump now (and file it under seal). Trump is a co-conspirator in a felony (this is a fact), and the judge would not have accepted Cohen's guilty plea were the evidence not conclusive/substatial enough to prove the crime was committed. This will "freeze" the clock on the statute of limitations (their "trump card") and trap the President forcing him to the table with Mueller / SDNY / etc. to make a negotiated settlement that includes resignation.

The judge actually made their opinion his own, he explicitly said so. We know that this federal judge decided that every single world laid out by the SCO and SDYN are true. So it goes well beyond just accepting the plea.
