A pedantic thread

Thu Jul 12, 2018 7:26 am

The purpose of this thread is to engage in sheer pedantry.

Please go ahead.

A thread does not have the capacity to engage in any sort of pedantry.

Make sure that in all of your responses you state a precise thesis supported by at least three arguments, including a bibliography for your citations.

Then why doesn't yours? You should follow your own pedantic rules if you're going to make them.

There are a great many errors in your post.

First of all, it is customary to specify that an emotive action, such as a sigh, is an action and not a word by marking it off with either two colons on either side of the word or an asterisk on either side of the word. Some authors also italicize the action.

Second, there should be one space after the comma, not two.

Third, the word "so" should not be capitalized.

Fourth, the word "pedantic" should similarly not be capitalized.

Fifth, you seem to be unaware that this was titled as "A pedantic thread." It is indeed pedantic because it is intended to be pedantic.

We have a saying in our beautiful language: op alle slakken zout leggen or to put salt on every snail. Of course it should not be a period, it should have been an exclamation mark!

And if I have read the title or not, is a question of opinion, not fact.

Per forum rule 1.c:

Therefore, I believe you were trying to write "up alley slacking's out legging", which means absolutely nothing and is therefore in violation of all that is good and pedantic.
