Sun Country Airlines is looking for new Twin Cities office space for its corporate employees.

The airline, according to two sources speaking on background, is looking for around 80,000 square feet of space in the south metro.

Its current headquarters is in Eagan, at 1300 Corporate Center Curve. That 54,000-square foot building, according to property records, is owned by the Davis Family, which owned the airline from 2011 until last spring, when it sold it to Apollo Global Management, a New York private equity firm.

“We’re currently committed to our building in Eagan through Spring of 2019, and have begun exploring our options beyond then,” spokeswoman Jessica Wheeler wrote in an email. “We have begun very preliminary research and are exploring all of our possible options in the Twin Cities, including the possibility of staying in our current building.”

Sources said Sun Country is looking for a building with around 40,000 square feet of space with 14-foot ceilings, so it can train flight crews.

Marc Nanne, senior vice president of Jones Lang LaSalle’s Minneapolis office, is representing Sun Country on its site search. He declined to comment.

Sun Country has spent the past year under a new CEO, Jude Bricker, repositioning itself as a no-frills, low-cost carrier. That’s meant thinner seats, fees for carry-on bags and outsourcing of its ground workers (though it's backtracked a bit on that last one). It’s also been adding new routes and hubs.

80000 or 40000sf? I don’t believe a future ULCC needs bigger offices. I think this is a scam to get taxpayer subsidies to stay in Minneapolis. Not the first or the last airline to do it.

Where is SY's ops center? Considering all the requirements an ops center has to meet, I can't imagine they relocate it every time the HQ moves...

Dispatch moved over to the former XJ hanger sometime ago. SY has their hanger and using the XJ hanger. I think all the pilot flight ops is there. The HQ move would be sales, marketing, reservations and more room for ego stroking. They have grounds ops up above Term 2. They can see the whole ramp. from gate 1 to gate 14

Lots of non-airlines do it, too. The state and city/county development funds ought to be looking for businesses that pay above-median wages in their industry, rather than dragging down pay. No $ for Sun Country.

Have driven by it, innumerable times, on 494 or 35-E.

Still not fully convinced that's what it's called.

Just want to move closer to their fleet. At least they’re not moving out of town. Didn’t think they’d have enough space at the hanger.
Remind me to send a thank you note to Mr. Boeing.
