What do you games play??

ETS2, ATS, iRacing and a little bit of Farming sim on XB1 my self.

City Skylines.

I play The Sims 3.

Love it, I have the Xbox One version. It can get quite addictive.

I do struggle with traffic though. I add major trunk routes in and out of areas, bus lanes, one way systems etc, but my streets still jam up. I even ran a major motorway underground with entrance and exit ramps leading up to strategic places on the surface. One thing I have learned to never use is the tram system, they really cause a mess and clog up streets.

I also recently started using Train Sim World on the Xbox One. Seems alright.

I also occasionally blow the dust off of Silent Hunter III on the laptop for a bit of U-boat simulation.

Train Simulator, here. It actually is even more challenging than some flight simulators.

Is it too late to try the sims for the first time?

Not at all! You'll want to go with Version 3 instead of Version 4, though, because 4 was (over)simplified for use on mobile platforms and lost a lot of the coolest features from 3. The Sims 3 base game and several expansions are still available at Walmart as well as at Amazon.

Does Elite Dangerous qualify?

Driving: ETS2, Train Simulator.
Honorable mention: Bus Driver (by SCS, the company that made ETS). An older game (2007), so graphics are...well, old, but really fun and challenging.
Building: I mostly play Transport Fever now. When I play Cities Skylines I mostly focus on transportation anyways.

But Xbox is the correct console franchise.

ETS2 and ATS, both with a selection of map mods. Cities Skylines but haven't played that in a while, the same with Train Simulator. I've seen a few Farming Simulator videos which has piqued my itnerest, although I'll probably wait for FS19 to be released before trying that.

I work for the Navy building and repairing simulators, I get to use them every day before training starts just to make sure everything is working.We use a program called VShip where I can drive pretty much any ship the Navy owns. We mostly train the Destroyer and LCS crews but carriers and supply ships are in there too. Little did I know I could turn my love of computers and years of playing flight sims into a career.

17 Got it on sale a while back, much like ATS and ETS2 its a very relaxing way to pass some time.

Probably just the same as to why you're interested in whatever you're interested in.

Everyone has interest, and sure, they may be different from yours, but just let them enjoy it. Personally I wouldn't be interested in a bus or farming sim, but then maybe FlyingDevil737 wouldn't like what I'm in to either.

iRacing... since 2011. Built a cheap cockpit last year:

I've been thinking of jumping into train simulation for a while now but am always put off by the DLC which seems to cost as much as the base game. Does anyone have experience with this to change my mind?

It's a Logitech Driving Force Pro. Current equivalent is the Driving Force GT, I believe.

You don’t have to buy the DLC, but the sim gets old fast without it. That said, sales are frequent, and once you have the base packs of some lines and trains, there is an entire library of user created scenarios.

I’ve got a few DLC’s that I’m looking at and just waiting for the right combination of there being a sale, my bank account having money, and none of the FS publishers having a simultaneous sale.

Now would actually be a good time to try Train Simulator. The end of November is Thanksgiving here in the States (major shopping weekend), and sales/discounts are pretty good.

I can tell you the physics are really good. If you’re going down the tracks at 80mph (not an unrealistic speed for a commuter train), you’re not stopping on a dime. Different tracks and trains have unique characteristics in different weather conditions. Trackside signals are different in various parts of the world. You have to learn this information to have success in the game. I’ve had it for several years and I still can’t always stop exactly where I want to along a platform.

There’s also a mode where you compete against other players for points and bragging rights. There are only one or two lines I own that I’m good enough to compete against the big boys.

I really enjoy it and hope you give it a try.
