Aviation fan killed by drunk driver

Wed Oct 03, 2018 10:44 pm

Hi everyone. I really apologize for the thread title being a cliffhanger and kinda random, but I really feel like this would be important to share, especially on a site like this.
https://www.cbsnews.com/news/andrew-mcm ... anorville/

Some of you may already know the whole story, but was a really young avgeek named Andrew McMorris. He was 12 years old and was a huge aviation fan. On Instagram, he would post pictures on his account (@am.aviation) of aircraft from his home airports such as JFK and ISP. He also posted pictures of models, wing views from traveling, and him flying Cessnas. He had an ultimate goal to fulfill his dream of becoming a pilot for American Airlines and fly their 787 Dreamliner.

On Sunday, Andrew was with his Eagle Scout club when himself and five others were hit by a driver under the influence. Unfortunately, Andrew was hurt very badly and eventually passed away from his injuries. This horrible event has caught the attention of many aviation fans and even AA, who put up a very nice post honoring him. https://www.instagram.com/p/BocKMfnFjwB ... mericanair

There is a GoFundMe for both his family and his Eagle Scouts club. Links to both are below:

This hits close to home for us aviation lovers. The whole situation is absolutely terrible and I feel like everyone should be aware of it. If you would like to send a donation, feel free to visit the GoFundMe pages.

Mods, please don't hesitate to move this thread to AvHobby or NonAv if it must. I just wanted to post it in CivAv because that's where most people would see it.

That GoFundMe is sketch. Never contribute to a campaign created by someone who didn't know the deceased.

That's so sad. He sounds like quite a remarkable little guy. Prayers for his mom and pop.

Awful. My heart goes out to Andrew's family and friends.

Someone had also started a change.org petition petitioning American to name one of their Dreamliners after Andrew. I signed it. May he rest in peace.

Wow it’s already got 9500 signatures out of 10000....

If he can’t fly one, maybe he can have his name on one at FL3XX. #ImmortAAlized
