Why? Imagine the left-wing and EU uproar if something like that happened in Poland. However, when there is state of emergency declared (again) in France, by Macron the silence is deafening.

Yet the state of emergency hasn't been declared... Check your sources, please.

More dialogue is needed, and more common sense too: it's difficult to appease people in the street who want to see lower taxes combined with higher government expenditure on social security and state pensions... santa claus comes by only once a year, and even he isn't real.

Therein lies the US problem—we’ve been able, by having the reserve currency, to borrow all out of reason thus not taxing at EU levels. What’s interesting is NO US politician would dream of proposing taxes, esp VAT and other regressive fees, that are common in the EU. Any politician proposing gas taxes equaling twice the price of the underlying commodity or VAT of 16%-20% would be hooted out of office on a rail, sporting feathers

In the French way, as usual.

Because galaxyflyer is asking how he is doing during popular unrest. Reacting to those is by definition popular. However, he doesn't strike me as very populist.

Which may have something to do with the fact that even in the state of emergency France still has an independent legal system to keep the government in check, while the polish government is working to remove just that perhaps? Or because the French state of emergency is a pretty mild tool, one that has its own oversight mechanisms embedded and doesn't centralize power, but rather distributes a lot of it?
I don't think that the French state of emergency today has any provisions in it that wouldn't fly as a matter of the normal state of affairs. The EU rules has very few rehulations with regards to those kind of things, only the Copenhagen criteria, and the French state of emergency is in line with that.

Best regards
Thomas

Well this will evoke stunned surprise on this forum. :sarcastic:

I am most similar to Barack Obama ( but I am on the populist side of the graph) and least similar to Trump).
Older than I just was ,and younger than I will soo be.
