Trump asks Iraqi PM to repay the USA for war ....

Trump to Iraqi PM: How about that oil?

President Trump twice raised to the Iraqi prime minister the idea of repaying America for its wars with Iraqi oil, a highly controversial ask that runs afoul of international norms and logic, according to sources with direct knowledge.

The US started an illegal war that there was no reason for and now Trump asks to be repayed in oil ? Does this guy have no shame ?

The Money lost in Iraq is of the US own doing and you got warned TREMENDOUSLY and VERY STRONGLY against starting that war.

I thought that was the reason for going into Iraq in the first place.

In France we have a saying that comes from very famous movie:
Les cons ça ose tout, c'est même à ça qu'on les reconnait
It perfectly describes Drumpf
When UK was in it wanted a lot of opt-outs, now it is out it wants opt-ins

The United States invaded Iraq in order to take Iraq's oil for itself and now Trump asks Iraqi PM to repay the USA for war, I would say Donald Trump 'has gone too far'.Trump is an excellent candidate for self-destructive behavior potentially harmful to the person who engages in the behavior

3 very good reasons from the article not to do this:

Regardless of the logistical hurdles, Trump's idea would face opposition in legal circles given it could arguably be tantamount to a war crime under international law. It additionally would stymie efforts to rebuild Iraq, as well as potentially provide propaganda fodder to radical groups operating in the nation.

Many happy landings, greetings from The Netherlands!

I think a better deal is having the Gulf monarchies pay the US in oil for its continued presence in the region. They asked for the US to be stationed there; might as well make it worth our while.

Then, if ISIS 2.0 is born, it was Obama's fault.

This is just the beginning. We will next demand a share of Guatemala's banana crop as payment for our expenditures in 1954, which were crucial in helping them maintain their unbroken line of dictators.

War had no reason? What about the 1000's of WMD's? What about the Islamic terrorist in the country. The USA is a much safer place now after the war. Bush did the right thing.

There where no WMD and the war both created ISIS and, Bush withdrawing US troops, made them the threat they are.

WTF fairytale world are you living in?

There were no WMDs in Iraq and no Islamic terrorism before the US-led war overthrew the Sadam Hussein regime. :banghead:

Where are the WMDs? Saddam didn't care if women got a college education or which deity his people worshiped. He would put down any uprising and remain in power. ISIS did not arrive until Bush destabilized Iraq.

Typical democratic response, the weapons were there,

Nope, they where not. There where no WMD left in Iraq before the war was even considered.

it took so long for congress to authorize the war Saddam was able to move his weapons to Syria and hide them there. His own people confirmed this.

No one ever confirmed anything like that and guess why? Because that didn't happen! Saddams guy made the statement in 2002*, which means the Bush government didn't believe him either, or they attacked Iraq without reason.... so either way the statement you dislike is true.

Best regards

Nice that you defend Bush junior. But wasn’t he himself very critically about this war recently?

I seem to recall the US having satellites that could read a newspaper in Gorky Park.

So either that claim was a lie, or how did we not KNOW that there were no WMD.

How could a programme of any size be entirely hidden.

That is great technology... if you are going to be attacked by a newspaper. What the US didn't do was rely on their operatives on the ground, who were convinced that there were no WMD's - and that there was no Al Quida presence in any area controlled by the Iraqui government.

The neocons brought in by Cheney and his band of merry manipulators - and remember that John Bolton was at the head of the class in this group -juggled the intelligence and manipulated the "facts" to drive us into the war... just as the same group is now pushing for similar action in Iran...

Trump seems to have given up on this idea, but prominent national security figures from both the Republican and Democratic parties have denounced the Trump idea, describing it as anomalous and inapplicable, and a violation of international law.

So you actually support Trump for once on this policy for Iraq where we broke the line, you just hope he doesn’t expand it to places like Guatemala where the opposite occurred.

What do you mean "we broke the line"? We overthrew Arbenz, the only freely elected president Guatemala has ever had. In Iraq, we overthrew the last secular government that country will see for many decades.

Where's the "line"?

The US has a long history with overthrowing governments especially the democratic ones. The CIA has publicly admitted for the first time that it was behind the notorious 1953 coup against Iran's democratically elected prime minister Mohammad Mosaddeq. Virtually the US is the responsible for creating many oppressive and totalitarian governments around the world. And now and without any shame they want to save his majesty the crown prince Saw of Saudi Arabia.

This time your "they" is limited to the Trump crowd. So, this time there will be serious opposition; it's coming with the new Congress in January. Maybe we'll do the right thing this time.
