What types of toys to donate to toy drives?

Sun Dec 02, 2018 11:34 am

Every year around this time I tell myself I'm going to, and then I yeah-yeah-yeah it...

One of the excuses I make is that I'm not sure what's a good toy that an underprivileged kid would enjoy. A $7 Rubik's cube for some reason caught my fascination, but are donated toys going to kids old enough to get something out of a challenging (depending on your age (and smarts)) puzzle type thing?

I was that nerdy kid who wore corduroys in July; my dad worked for Digital Equipment Corporation so we had a quantity of weird 1980's computer terminals & modems (or acoustic couplers!!) in our house. That's why these things confound me so. Programming in DCL on a VAX 11/780 was the bulk of my "play" time. :boggled:

There's a toy drive at my local Menard's in Golden Valley, and at the Toyota dealership where my car is going for its 75K checkup soon... What. Should. I. Bring?!?!?
Pancakes are delicious.

I'm sure advice & suggestions will vary greatly but for my 2 :twocents: , stuffed animals. For childeren in less fortunate circumstances then ourselves a simple teddy bear can become a dear & trusted friend and later on a fond childhood memory. Different circumstances but i have worked a little bit with sick childeren & you'd be surprised how fast a nice teddybear or something like that captures a place in their hearts. Toys that will last a year until the next fad just can't beat it.

Whatever you decide to do i'm sure it will be appreciated.
I believe in coincidences. Coincidences happen every day. But I don't trust coincidences.

All the broke and non-working toys, that’s what I donate

I would stay away from toys needing batteries. As noted above, stuffed animals, toy cars/trucks, are what I have given in the past.
