Your Favorite Blog or YT Channel - Hobbies, Passions, Interests

Tue Jan 29, 2019 9:53 am

Where do you spend your time when not on A.Net, to get info and stories on your hobbies and interests?

I really like good quality blogs and YT channels, I'd be curious to see some of your favorites! :)

For aviation, my favorite channel is: https://www.youtube.com/user/boredentertainment88
Really worth watching and some amazing back-country flying.
Video worth watching, the coolest and probably best bush plane ever built. Check it out. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D5Z2VNTFp-Q&t=238s

For cycling, I haven't found anything better than https://www.globalcyclingnetwork.com/ and their YT show

For general travel, it's hard to beat Wolter's World- https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ivujRCvDFHM
He gets down to the nitty-gritty and tells you the good and bad about destinations.

For all things Scottish, I like Shaun- https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZVD3WACByF0
Apparently there are a bunch of people with channels named "Shaun", so for this particular one I type "Shaun Scottish" into the search bar and he's usually the first result.

For cooking with humor, it's SortedFood- https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e3WQFK04OSE
Five crazy Brits… well, four crazy Brits and one relatively sane Scotsman tackling all sorts of culinary challenges, both serious and silly.

For angry, topical Australian humor, it's Isaac Butterfield (Definitely NSFW, language)- https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t1uZZ_xRYvQ
In the video he reviews a list of reasons not to visit Australia.

To watch the humorous results of Irish people trying new things, most but not all of the things from the US, it's TRY Channel (Somewhat NSFW, language)- https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MsUtcrQ7M0c
In this particular video Ciara achieved "Legend" status. Just watch.

The Slo-Mo Guys.

The recent one of the Icelandic geyser is really neat. However most of their video's are very well done and interesting.

I'm embarrassed to admit it but YT is where I park my brain for the day to watch car crash vids, dream about lottery cars watching ICON and Revology videos, the tow truck guys from Dallas, airplane crash investigations, crocs munching zebras on the Zambezi..and always cute kitten and puppy videos on days when Trump goes totally off the rails. It reminds there's still some good in this world. My absolute favorite recent video is this one of an Australian guppy:

I don't watch much TV so as others have said YT is where I park myself.
At work I'll listen to podcasts in my bluetooth headset and at home I'll pull up podcasts on YT. I watch a few vloggers.
I do have this weird habit of going on "virtual trips." Don't ask me how or why I started doing this but a random destination will come to mind and I'll youtube videos that passengers took of landing there, then I'll look up like an airport tour video and then I'll look up a travel vlog about it.
I couldn't tell you why I started doing that. For example the day before yesterday AA sent a 767 from PUJ to CLT, usually flown by a A330. I was off of work and they come over my house as they turn from downwind to final on the 18s, so I went out to watch it. Right after I went on a binge watching everything I could about flying into PUJ, the airport, and what it's like to vacation there.

Looking over my sub list I have >20 channels that I follow and watch regularly.... I have been checking out this new channel. <https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC8XCmWXE2J5dF7wXkzUVHtw>, this guy is a train hopper... just footage of him riding the rails. Totally illegal, no voice overs, but totally fascinating.

Aviationwise I follow Steveo1kinevo: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCT4l4o ... Hrk_1i-5Ug
Flightchops: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCPOMdL ... G9Bxppk4Mw
Captmoonbean: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCYQxZz ... E8_wL9e9Pw

Otherwise it is mixture of gaming/computer/ channels like LGR, 8-Bit Guy and Techmoan or motorcycling stuff.

I usually just let the suggestions take me through my wild ride of videos. Sometimes you end up in unexpected places.

I generally prefer videos where someone is making something. Sometimes wood working on a lathe. Sometimes someone making something with primitive tools. Different techniques for survival in different environments. Youtube and Facebook algorithms do a pretty good job of suggesting videos beyond that, though occasionally you end up in a weird place.

This one popped up in my suggestions a few months back and it sounds like it is up your alley. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U2jNeObHnZY, but this person has an entire channel dedicated to old tool and hardware restorations. Something very satisfying about watching somebody with skills well beyond mine restoring what seems on face like junk.

Two of my favourite youtube channels are:
Simone Giertz .- The Queen of shitty robots https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC3KEoM ... wBC34RaKCQ
White spot pirates - Untie the lines, German woman Nike Steiger and her sailing adventures. https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCkYfFe ... PrOc9So7PA

I love watching the dash cam car crash vids! They kinda suck during the winter though because they devolve into just minor fender-benders when vehicles hit an unexpected patch of ice… BO-RING! Bring on springtime when I can count on seeing some idiot get his just desserts for trying, bravely and foolishly, to brake-check a semi in a Lada Samara, Ford Focus, or clapped-out grey-market Nissan Skyline.

I cruised through a few suggestions last night, hats off to desert jet, the tool channel is great and so is the train jumper channel. The latter guy reminds me of Jack Reacher a bit, I imagine he travels alone from town to town saving the downtrodden and just generally kicking meth biker ass.

But the guy woodworking the old cleaver handle, I was in La La land. You probably like the steelworks videos too, melting steel in huge vats and shaping it into giant lugs and bolts.

And TSS..winter car crashes from Russia man, those are some of the best. They drive like honey badgers, driving snow and ice on the roads, honey badger don't give a shit doing a 120 kph right off the mountain side.

Nice! I'll watch some more of her videos for sure. I've been following S/V Delos for a few years, worth checking them out as well. https://www.youtube.com/user/briantrautman

True, the Russian winter crash videos are far better than any others. Clearly they have no fear of black ice on the roads, but I guess that's just how it is there in winter. My only question is what does "suka" (or "shuka") translate to in english? There's no doubt in my mind it's a swear word, I'd just like to know which one.

Сука.
It means "bitch".
I just learned about the richness of the Russian language when it comes to insults and curse words.

Thanks. I suspected it meant that because I've heard it shouted aloud as a one-word exclamation a lot, but once or twice I've also heard someone clearly call someone else that term descriptively.

Nice, although the english slang terms for same are hardly any better.

Back to the topic at hand, the coffee is made and I'm off to watch Good Mythical Morning- https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W-3qt3FKfPc

I watch Jeff Favignano for gaming, and Christopher Bill for when my inner musician needs to unwind.

Russian and Eastern European car crashes are great viewing when I’m in a bad mood too.
