DL 14FEB19 profit sharing up to 10X more than other U.S. carriers!

Wed Feb 13, 2019 11:34 pm

Amazing that tomorrow’s DL profit sharing for their employees is up to 10X what employees at other U.S. carriers are getting! Such a tremendous accomplishment. Congratulations to all of my friends (and 1 family member) who are fortunate enough to work for such a great company.

Way to go Delta!

Very impressive alright. It amazes me how some people have such a disdain for DL. They don't have to be your favorite carrier, but my God, you outta respect the work they do in running a business.

I hope the employees keep up the great work.

Well done! Delta!

This is aweome! However, I do find it funny Delta selects the two lowest profit sharing airlines to compare to. Last year Southwest Airlines employees received more than the non union Delta employees and this year thay are not far behind. Alaska employees will also recievce a considerable amount more than AA and UA who Delta is using as comparison.

Congrats to the Delta employees and all airline employees for keeping our industry profitable!

Good for Delta employees. Does DL announce the % beforehand or is it arbitrary at the time it's given? Also of they are getting that much profit sharing they need a raise ;)

My family member who works for DL said the payout is 14% of their base salary.

It says as much in the graphic above. To answer sagechan's question, I had friends at Delta telling me earlier this year that they'd been told 14% in January, but it sounded like it wasn't known for sure until 2018 closed out.

Thanks winginit, at AA it's 5% though it's not negotiated with any the the union contracts, so technically they could change, it's unlikely Parker would do that.

How does the basic pay rate at AA compare to those at DL.

AA was 1.4%
UA was 2.7%
SW was 10.8%
DL was 14%

For United it depends on what each employee group negotiated. Most got 2.7%, but the Flight Attendants got 4.6%, and Pilots got 5.56%.

Keep Climbing Delta; the company has paid more than 5 billion dollars in profit sharing in the past 5 years. Nearly double that of UA/AA.

“This is the fifth year in a row that Delta’s profit sharing has topped $1 billion — a milestone no company in history has ever achieved,” said Delta’s Chief Executive Officer Ed Bastian. “Delta people are the reason for our success and Valentine’s Day is our favorite day each year as we celebrate the incredible results our people have delivered.”

While I congratulate DL and their employees on this accomplishment, the math that DL uses as to show how much the 8K turns into is highly flawed. Yes it does have a multiplier effect but not to that extent. Derek does not make a 3K profit on a 4K job, Dexter does not spend 100% of his sale as he has costs, and Deena has costs also and does make a 200% profit. I had an econ prof in college that work for 2 LARGE corps and he said it would be more like 50-75%, so the 8K would be more like 14K in the end at best. My Stats prof said if you control the numbers, you control your narrative. CONGRATS to DL and the employees....$1B is IMPRESSIVE

It's pretty tactless to be gloating about profit sharing relative other airlines.

Basic pay rate? For whom? Pilots? Flight Attendants? Management? Gate Agents?

Tactless? "We pay our people more than our competitors pay their people" sounds like one of the oldest and most effective recruiting tools in the book.

I was thinking the same. I need to start a renovation business in Georgia. 75% profit margin is amazing, makes Delta profit sharing looks like chump change.

This is internal company marketing, and not intended to mock rivals. It boosts morale, helps retain and attract top talent. Aaanndd makes a case to the FAs who are being courted to unionize.

The pool is 5% of Net Income, this year's individual payout at AA was 1.4% of eligible employee earnings. The second # comes from first/total qualified earned income from eligible groups. The 1.4% is just the allocated payout %, the 5% is the profit sharing amount.

Thank you, sir.

I don't fly much (mostly because of where I'm located) and I wish they'd buy 787s, but I can look at it objectively. They run a very well organized company and I respect that tremendously.

nice job sharing the wealth with employees. the traditional US corporation would have shared it with the stock holders.

delta remains my third favorite US airline.

IINM, AA's employees' unions were offered a higher percentage of profit sharing at pay scales similar to DL's employees.

AA's unions opted instead for the "bird in the hand" of higher base pay rates.

We need to compare apples with apples.

I should clarify that I think it's tactless that it ended up *here*. Delta telling their people "look, we're taking care of you!" and doing so is great.

The posting here is like the snotty kid after Christmas gloating to the poor kids at school that Santa likes him better.

My Nephew works for DL and said that their internal profit sharing celebration yesterday was quite nice. Apparently all DL leaders company wide served lunch to their team members and direct reports to thank them for a financially successful 2018. I could tell he was impressed by that gesture.
