Seattle-Area a.nut meetup

Fri Feb 15, 2019 5:55 am

Seems like there's a lot of us in the area, let's get together for a beer sometime and talk about the 380, 797, and random other things. For a venue, I'm thinking somewhere in Seattle, because there's people coming from north and south. As far as timing, please click the link below and we'll try to pick something that works for everyone.

You know I'll be there - forwarded your email to a new Seattle a.nut (longtime member, just moved here)
I can meet anywhere in the area - Sundays work best for me, but could make a Saturday work as well depending on what weekend it is or a Tuesday or Wednesday late afternoon/evening

I may be able to fly in, depending on the day. Anyone ok with places near Sea-Tac like Sharp’s, Mango Thai, or 13 Coins?

I would definitely be good with those as I live about 15 minutes away. If we end up somewhere else, I would be happy to be your designated driver - could pick you up in the airport vicinity and take you back when done.

I was initially thinking somewhere around the city, seeing as we may have people coming in from the north, but I'll see who all signs up and then we can figure it out. Where would you be flying in from?

It's often very difficult to drive through downtown Seattle, but a location in downtown works from both the north and south, as LH707330 said. If you're coming from SEA, light rail is your best bet. It goes through the tunnel and has stops from China Town to Westlake center. If you want to go a bit further to South Lake Union, hop on a car at the Westlake Streetcar Station. I live north and usually take a tunnel bus from North Gate Center to downtown.

Did I mention that traffic in Seattle is horrible?

I've talked to crews ridding the streetcar who were in town on a long layover at SEA or picking up a new airliner. Somewhere between China Town and South Lake Union is a nice place for us to meet, plus all the things to see.

Thanks,
Cary

Hi Tom.

Yeah traffic sucks in the city (not that the suburbs are a dream). If we end up anywhere near downtown, it's light rail from Sea-Tac for me. I can park for free at the airport garage.

PS - shout out to the "new kid in town" - glad you replied (assuming to the "doodle" on the email I sent you).

I'm good with anywhere within a reasonable distance of the light rail.

I don't get into the city much anymore, but wondering if anyone knows - did anyone take over the old Pyramid Alehouse across the street from the Mariners' stadium? If so, that might be a good spot. It's an easy walk from the light rail stadium station or the ferry dock and it's right off both I-5 and I-90. And it's a big place so we'd probably have no trouble accomodating our group

I suspect any of the sports bars/restaurants would welcome a meeting after the lunch crowd is gone.

Traffic certainly can be a pain, weekends outside of major sports seasons (i.e. now) are not too bad in my experience. I'll see how many more responses we get over the next day or so, then schedule a couple dates to meet in the next few weeks.

I took a look this morning. The Pyramid Alehouse on the corner of 1st Av and Royal Brougham would certainty work. Seating is a bit dense with smaller tables and booths, and it seemed noisy (quite a few customers). There are rooms upstairs which would be ideal if we could get one. The tables are larger and we could slide them together, but I'm not sure how the service would be. There were no customers up stairs when I was there. Lots of beer and snacks to chose from plus pizza. It's about 1.2 miles from the ferry.

The Elysian Brewing Co is is at 542 1st Ave and has an entrance on Occidental. It's a newer place and large with somewhat private areas, but no rooms. Quite a few tables of different sizes and a raised area where we could slide tables together. Lots of beer and snacks but no pizza (at least I didn't see any). It's about 1/2 mile from the ferry. It was quiet but there were few customers.

The Pyramid Alehouse: 1201 !st Ave S 206-682-3377
Elysian Brewing Co. 542 1st Ave S 206-799-5186

I'd lean toward the Elysian but either should be fine.

Certainly possible based on the schedule. Since I live both in the Snohomish area as well as in Vancouver BC, I am pretty busy.

But would love to based on schedule. Should be a lot of aviation knowledge in the PNW!

Ok, based on the doodle and the various email threads I've had, let's do Sat, March 30th, 1200-1600 at the Elysian in Sodo (NB: there's ones elsewhere, make sure your navi doesn't send you there). I'll try to get a final headcount and then nail that down.
