What Happened to LH442 Mar. 2, 2019?

Sun Mar 03, 2019 1:23 pm

I saw the playback of LH442 yesterday (3/2/19) and I couldn't help but notice that the for the first hour of the flight, the speed (and altitude) was all over the place. It says that the aircraft first dropped from 27,150ft to 25,625ft, then back up to 35,125ft, then down to 28,975ft, then 50,175ft (which is obviously impossible), and the speed was constantly fluctuating. Could this have actually happened, or is this a glitch with Flightradar24?

Interesting find. Till it reached the UK, groundspeed and heading was also all over the place.
Many happy landings, greetings from The Netherlands!

Got to be a glitch. Another site has much smoother data. My in laws flew the other day and I observed erratic behavior including speed, altitude, and headings changing abruptly. Just data being reported erroneously.

If you play back LH462 FRA-MIA on the previous day (01Mar) then it does the same. Up to FL340, down to FL279 at 504kts, then FL340 at 745kts within a few minutes and FL340 at 92kts by 10:31 utc! Clearly much of this can't actually have happened. The coincidence is that was also operated by D-AIHY. Looks like something amiss with the read-outs from that particular airframe. Certainly if anything of that nature had taken place in reality, you wouldn't have continued the flight across the Atlantic.

Yeah, clearly something's up with the track log of D-AIHY since it left Manila on 2/28

Because it would appear that the subject of the topic relates to a tracking website glitch, it is no longer Civil Aviation related, and the thread has been moved accordingly.
