Stephen Moore: Capitalism Is More Important Than Democracy

https://crooksandliars.com/2019/04/step ... -important

Which appears to the case from witnessing the raging furor over Medicare, Education for ALL being seen ahere s 'Socialism' by those who think 'Greed Is Good'.

Is he right? Is the America's pledge now, we know the American president is fully on board...I mean, he picked the guy.

I would say yes, without capitalism you can't even have a society, and such situation would render higher level concepts like "democracy" meaningless.
Then, obviously medicare and education are not the opposite of capitalism. They are also elements of modern "capitalistic" society required for the society to function properly.
This is a placeholder.

Those priorities certainly worked in Singapore, Hong Kong and arguably in China, if creating wealth and raising millions out of poverty is important.

We have entered the twilight zone again 40 years after the program ended on TV. It was a fantasy, this is not. I nominate Stephen Moore to replace Rod Serling as MC of this fantasy. Greed over rules Democracy. My God! these people are nuts. Where is Patrick Henry, Thomas Jefferson, George Washington and so many other great Patriots

Not sure what priorities you're talking about here, but you surely know that HK and Singapore have excellent and free public hospital and schools, along with housing scheme for the poorer and a host of other social programs...

The higher classes have a strong hold of the US government. Not even a strong left-of-democratic government could overpower the lobbies and corporate interests reigning over federal politics.

I wouldn't call the US a very strong democracy anyway, so I suppose they might as well be honest about the goal there.

People are obviously either happy about the situation or not smart enough to understand what's going on or oblivious to the fact that they are encouraging a system that leads to the concentration of wealth and power.

Capitalism is the only system that is currently compatible with the human condition, but it needs to be regulated to prevent it from benefiting only the few at the expense of everyone else.
Regulation and social measures are not incompatible with a capitalist system and can bring it stability and growth by helping all classes.

It's all about moderation. Unchecked capitalism would mean anarchy where the majority are ruled by the few who managed to corral the most in terms of wealth & resources.

No capitalism meanwhile wouldn't work.

Do both capitalism and democracy need to be intertwined for them both to work? I don't think so. People spending money on things gives money to corporations and supply chains. Democracy is giving us a stronger voice for things like clean water, clean air, affordable health care, affordable education, fewer WMDs, better security forces, etc. I feel democracy and capitalism go together when the government needs something like high speed internet and computers, upgraded transportation systems, upgraded weapons for defense so go to the best company for those things. Those companies hire people to build that stuff and get supplies.

Democracy and capitalism should not be one in the same. They should be kept separate as much as possible.
You bet I'm pumped!!! I just had a green tea!!!

Some correction for the title of the thread...Moore was picked for a Governor slot on the Federal Reserve Board not the Chair..
