No Biden and No Trump. Who?

Mon Apr 29, 2019 3:42 pm

Ok lets try a more light hearted approach without the toxic bomb tossing.

You have to vote for someone other than Trump or Biden. You can't sit it out. Who do you vote for and why?

I think I have to go with Booker. The others are just too extreme and I think if he got into power he would at least try to govern with the other side somewhat. I would also vote for Schwartz if he got on the ticket.

Don’t really think he has the presence to get past the Biden/Sanders networks and fundraising, but I really like this dude and would be inclined to vote for him:

Bill Weld. People forget how great a job he did as Governor of Massachusetts and sadly had his career ruined by Jesse Helms, a member of his own party.

Second Choice would be Tulsi Gabbard. I think she is a democrat who can bring both sides together.

That being said, if it was those two on the November ballot, I would be tempted to write in Nikki Haley.

I was really hoping that Nikki was gearing up for a presidential run and had been informed by Trump or others that he was not going to run for a second term. A Nikki Haley presidency would be awesome.

From the current candidates: Buttigieg on the Democratic side. If they were to run, Larry Hogan on the Republican side, with John Kasich a close second.

I still think Trump is going to toss Pence to the curb and ask Haley to be his running mate for 2020.

Pence might get tossed to the curb, but no way would Nikki Haley accepted the position as Vice-President. Why would she take a pay cut (she got a couple of Board of Director positions) and risk having her reputation tarnished?

Tulsi Gabbard seems like a take-no-BS person. And as stated earlier she seems to bridge the ideals of both sides well.

The only thing I don't agree with her on is her stance against the TPP, but at that point I'd vote for Congressmen who line up with her bit still favor the TPP. Personally I'm for the TPP as long as China is out of it.

Plus shes hot.

Any rules saying she'd have to drop those roles? That does remind me that I was a little annoyed to hear that she got a nice kickback Boeing director role after she gave Boeing a nice sweet deal to open up shop in South Carolina. But I can't blame her or them for doing so. And she's already had a very high position in the Trump Admin, that didn't affect her reputation much. Might not like her politics or positions but I thought she handled herself quite well at the UN.

TPP is a good way to keep AFL-CIO in Trump's camp. They were against it when Obama was negotiating for it. And are still against it.

It's all still early to say who I will vote for. At this point my dog gets the vote over Trump. Other than that I will have to wait and see.

Assuming Pence and Trump get along, Pence might realize Trump needs both women and evangelicals so he announces God revealed to him he should be Secretary of State instead and Trump agreed to that and all three will make up his senior administration.

If being SOS (and under Trump) got her high paying positions which it likely did, why do you think having VP on her resume too would make that less likely in the future? If anything it makes her more in demand.

Mike Pompeo is well liked as secretary of state and he has already stated he intends to remain there and not run for senate here in kansas (where he would be an automatic win for republicans - trust me they are trying to get him to run). I think he plans to remain as SoS so he can launch a presidential campaign for 2024.

It'll be Pompeo vs Haley in the 2024 primaries. Mark my words.

You need to understand that people run for president and office not so much to win but to get famous and thus get jobs. Not to mention I think Haley has aspirations for more elected office and if she becomes VP the sky is the limit.

Come on...Haley is better than both of them :duck: :duck: :duck: :duck: :duck: :duck:

I personally don't have a pick yet - I'll be honest that I"m just not familiar enough with many candidate's position (doesn't help that, well, some candiates have pretty much identical platform). I'm definitely in the no Biden, no Trump club, though.

A good question, but I just can't seem to get excited about any candidate at present. Perhaps as the field narrows a bit and their respective positions become a bit more finite, then things might change.

Nicki Haley wasn't SOS. She was the United States Ambassador to the United Nations.

My bad, I meant SOS for Pence in 2020. But since Ambassador to VP is even more of a jump, it proves my point even more.

That would be a strategically smart move, it'd split the the women's vote.

Only problem is...FAT Donny's innate fear of being upstaged. He'd count how many news clips featuring her vs him..and go bonkers each time she out performs.
Also if she sounds too smart...he'll probably toss Pence and pluck Lindsey.

As for my choice,
Kamala Harris + Andrew Yang or vv.
Kamala Harris + Beto vv
Kamala Harris + Eric Swallwell vv
Beto O'Rourke + Andrew Yang vv
Beto O'Rourke + Julian Castro vv
Liz Warren + Yang or vv
Liz Warren + Beto no vv (Warren is the Sage)
Sanders + Andrew Yang no vv
Sanders + Kamala No vv (Bernie is Senior, he tops)
Eric Swallwell + Andrew Yang vv
Kamala + Beto O'Rourke vv
Julian Castro + Andrew Yang vv
Sanders + Castro + Andrew Yang
Kamala + Mayor Pete NO vv (until the cop tape story is completely unveiled.
Yang + Gillibrand No vv

- Booker only as VP...and still not very comfortable with that.

worst Dem Combo
Klobuchar + Booker vv

Rebubs I can live with....
1. Weld
2. Kasich

I'll go along with your choice of Booker on the dem side and Einsteinboricua's choice of Kasich on the GOP side. Both would reach across the aisle and at least try to make some compromises - Lord knows we are in dire need of that.

I'd prefer Tom Hanks... (maybe if I keep bringing it up, it'll happen). I'd vote for Nikki or Condi, too.

Out of the current crop, but without Trump or Biden? Wow... I guess Tulsi, unless Kasich or Bloomberg officially enter the race, and then it'd be one of them, in that order.

Seems like Kasich is a popular choice in this thread :) (Not that I mind voting for him...hack, I voted for him in the 2016 primary despite knowing that he has absolutely no chance). He's definitely more conservative than Republican in general portray him as, though (But then..."Sensible Conservative" is definitely a dying breed).

P.S. Andrew Yang needs way more attention than he's getting now. Selling UBI would not be easy, though.
P.S. Zero mention of Oprah? :duck: :duck: :duck: (I mean, who would not like the fact that everyone gets a car, a house, whatever :duck: :duck: :duck: ).

The only reason I would agree with this statement is just because compared to Trump, a Nikki Haley presidency would be a return to normalcy. There's a reason she was one of the few folks to be unanimously confirmed to a position.

As I noted I do have some personal angst in regards to her ties to Boeing. But it's a minor quibble and is likely more of an issue for left leaning voters than right leaning voters.

I would vote for her over just about anyone right now.

Erm, why is that?

Nevermind I see, the electors rule.

https://www.history.com/news/can-the-pr ... same-state “The electors shall meet in their respective states, and vote by ballot for two persons, of whom one at least shall not be an inhabitant of the same state with themselves.”

Per that article, they could still run. They'd just have to forfeit California's electoral votes. I'm for this. They should run.
