Privatize airports and interstates. That will generate trillion$ in government revenue and private investments.

Not a penny on the cost side for the taxpayer.

And neither one will be allowed to grow to accommodate increased demand ever again. Look at all the hand-wringing BS Heathrow is having to go through to add one runway now instead of the two additional runways it should have had 20 years ago.

What? The post was about American central government's funding allocation, and it said nothing about funding situation of the project itself. The 1 billion that was supposed to be assigned to the project was not even an significant part of the project's total costs quoted above, just to show how little support the American government is offering to infrastructures.

Lol. This is exactly what I am talking about. How else a government can support something if not to allocate any funding? Just because someone broadcasts a speech in Congress the high speed rail will not appear.

That requires fixing broken laws and environmental licensing. And that affects governments, too.

How about trying cooperatization first, such as forming something like "New York Airports Inc.", with the State as the only shareholder. With that, you can bring some priate co mpany efficiency and autonomy, but you dont have to necesarily privatize it. Way better than the current inefficient mix of local and state authorities!
Why does public transit have to be operated by "Authorities" (Muni, BART, MTA, etc.) - why not doe it like Europe and tranfer operations and ownership to formally private companies in government (city, county, etc.) ownership! Employ the workes as "normal" employees, just as any other private company would (and not grant ludacris salaries, benefits + pensions).

Why not transfer ownership + control of Interstates to a new, government-owned, company (Highway Inc.), such as they do in Europe - more efficient and less expensive.

Why does the Senate have a say in basically every business decision the USPS makes (such as closing post offices - they even have to VOTE in order to rename post offices)?
Why not float USPS Inc. on the stock exchange, while retaining a majority stake?

Europa again did this in the 90s an 00s - look at Germanys Deutsche Telekom; used to be a beurocrats heaven while employees, who were civil servants, enjoyed lifetime benefits - now a global telco (66% in T-Mobile US) while the Government still enjoys a dividend of ca. 1 billion (32% stake).

Everything certainly better than loosing 8 billion a year like the USPS.

Of course there is no money for it - everything is given away to those claiming to be “poor” and “destitute”.

Many in congress tried to do exactly this with the ATC system last year, and it even had the support of the Air Traffic Control unions. Lobbying by the NBAA as well as Sully eventually killed the bill.
