Of course it’s this. He’s a shit individual and businessman, wears his insecurities like an ill-fitting suit and is no kind of role model or leader whatsoever. My parents disagreed with many of Reagan’s policies when I was growing up but never disparaged him as a person - why? He wasn’t a terrible person and it showed.
Agreed, I was a strong Carter supporter (liked Reagan in 1972 cuz U was a gong-ho flag waving USA! USA! USA! type living abroad)..by 1976 I was better educated re: USA domestic issues and foreign policy blunders and discovered Reagan's sellout during his reign at SAG as soldout Hollywood players as commies during the dark days of McCarthy). But you are correct, Reagan as much as his policies sucked...he was an acceptable place holder.
Anyone on the left who accuses him of being a bad guy personally either never saw his Challenger address or never saw this interview clip:https://youtu.be/Py2U80qxvHw
U01: Ronald Reagan and the Federal Deinstitutionalization of Mentally Ill Patients
Saw that and more, watched the entire Iran Contra BS show, remember his shutting down all federally funded Mental Health care facilities (exactly the reason why you see homeless people everywhere).
For billions (if not trillions) to given to the Military Industrial Complex...I'd prefer instead of pockets of Professional Gov't Welfare Grifters it be spent on Americans in dire need, hell even the lifelong welfare dependent because they are going put it right back in the economy whereas the Fat Cats redistribute to Swiss bank accounts.
See the movie Salvador and watch that and tell me that's foreign policy you can look in the eye and get behind.
Reagan was trained actor (mediocre at best) aka..good at reading 'lines' - as President, that's all he did. His speeches you like (like every Oresident) were written for him only thing is by being an actor, even with Alzheimers he could deliver a speech better than any president..Obama included.
But he was a decent guy up to the point of being unaware of what was being done in his name...and it was bad, really bad.
