Trump supports Netherlands World Cup

Fri Jul 05, 2019 8:11 pm

TRUMP SUPPORTS NETHERLANDS World Cup 2019 | United States of Europe. With the continuing feud between USA Captain Megan Rapinoe and Donald Trump, the President voices his support for the Netherlands in World Cup 2019.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fHUslJcB3-8

So will the women football team win the final and become world champions. We will see on Sunday.

Hopefully they will respond accordingly... obviously refusing to attend the White House after any win.

Edited to correct and add: Didn't watch the video until after! :spin:

The Dutch Women's soccer team has been excellent so far. Hope they win. Never been so close to the top.

To be honest though it was trump that decided to dig in first. She did not say what she said to gig him, it was part of a months old interview, before they had won anything, done anything, and they clipped it from there.

If our current President is cheering for other than the USA, that is wrong. Look, I don't like the way Ms. Rapoine expressed her opinions as to President Trump, using the F-word, but I understand her opinion as to the general political, sexist and woman abusing opinions and ways of Trump. Win or lose the final, the USA team have already been invited to the US Capital by some of the progressive Democrats like AOC and I have no doubt politicians of both parties will participate in honoring them.

He isn’t. The video is a parody. What isn’t a parody is that Trump has more women as top advisers than Obama, Bush, or Clinton.

While I tend to agree with you, I do see commentators who totally ignore a male athlete who mixes the "F-bomb" into his daily conversation, but take offense when a female athlete does the same. I had the same feeling, then I had to catch myself and ask, "Why?"

It is our upbringing, I am sure - and I am showing my age now. In this era, we are supposed to accept than men and women are equal - and thus we cannot make separate standards for their etiquette and presentation. I am uncomfortable, too, but I accept that.

You really should change the misleading title to make clear that this is a parody.

Also, some members of the US Women's Team have been plain disrespectful. It was their choice to make the contest about politics, not Trump's.

Does it really matter this is a parody?

Half the threads covering US-politics on this forum are based on BS. That has been the case since at least Bill’s been in office.

At least this thread is made in good fun, and does not try to hide it’s based on BS.

"We" as in the USA. There is a reason we have many baseball, American football, basketball, and hockey teams but no "regular football" leagues.

So you just have a US-centric view on everything. "Does anyone really care about any of this?" You mean, does anyone in the US really care about this.

You do understand that I am not American right? Yes, I do not care about the US team all that much, just like I don't care about the Chili team, Australian team, Chinese team or Angola team all that much. So where did I root against my own country, the Netherlands?

Which is just plain wrong because the US has several such leagues with the biggest, the MLS, having gotten so vastly popular in the last years that they keep on expanding to accommodate more franchises for a broad spectrum of the American public that very much so cares about soccer.

But hey what am I even saying, all these franchises are in bigger cities (soccer craze is strongest in the PNW and new teams have been launched in Miami, LA and the likes) so I totally get what you mean now.
"REAL" Americans don't care about soccer, they prefer to waste 5 hours at a baseball game. Only those god-dayum liberals in their big cities watch soccer. Worse yet, much of the hype around it is carried by immigrants from soccer-obsessed Latin America. What an un-American sport.

They lost to a U15 Boys team in a scrimmage. More important than the results of that game is the fact that they believed that there was any merit whatsoever in scrimmaging a U15 boys team.

Let’s use Serena Williams as an example since there are plenty of statistics. The ATP rankings for men go down to 2063 places. At her peak, she would not have even made the list. Her stats corresponded to a mid level college player.

So, no, the women would not “trounce” a moderately capable men’s university team. Far from it.

I’m not taking away from the amazing achievements of the United States team. They deserve a ton of respect. But the reality is that the men’s and women’s competitiveness are two very different things. There is a reason why countless more people tune in to watch the men compared to the women.

But, hey. If you are right why have a World Cup for both genders? Let’s just have one tournament open to anyone.

As this is a thread about the politics of it all and is based on a mock news item. I just want to confirm how you must also feel the same for Trump as you do for Rapinoe.

I mean Trump is his own brand, he promotes it constantly, he lives the brand. Also even though he espouses "America First" he and some of his teammates/administration officials have behaved horribly toward others at times.

I say this in line with the spirit of the OP post and video.

Textbook example of manipulation of low information voters. She is only doing what the mainstream media (translation : Democrat party) do every single day. She learned well. Next item (which she probably has already done, I don't care to research her) is promising to contribute some paltry percent of her profits to some liberal social cause. Perhaps a program to train polar bears to be vegetarian in light of man caused global warming shrinking the ice caps?

The is no mainstream republican media. Multiple studies since the 1970s have shown the presss is biased to the tune of about 80-90% democrat. Look them up yourself.

Who needs misinformation from media when it’s right out of the White House cherrypicking from the jobs report to snow over low information voters:

The June report indicates that robust jobs growth is coupled with consistently strong wage growth. Nominal average hourly earnings rose by 3.1 percent over the past 12 months, marking the 11th straight month that that year-over-year wage gains were at or above 3 percent. Prior to 2018, nominal average hourly wage gains had not reached 3 percent since April 2009.

There is evidence that real wages are also growing when taking inflation into account. Based on the most recent Personal Consumption Expenditures (PCE) price index data from May, inflation in the past year was 1.5 percent, and based on the most recent Consumer Price Index (CPI-U) price data from May, inflation in the past year was 1.8 percent.

https://www.whitehouse.gov/articles/u-s ... in-strong/

Wage increases are not strong - the feds’ own data on real wages shows they are at around 1% growth - same place they have been for most of the past decade. Average and nominal hourly wages aren’t a marker of anything useful in the real market.

https://www.bls.gov/news.release/realer.nr0.htm

Also the WH should not be quoting the PCE index as BLS does not use it for computing real wages. The context of key cost indices is also missing. Housing cost was growing 3% last two years and is still at 1.6% now. Food prices are up 2% since last year. Healthcare cost growth is still at nearly 4%.

Denial is not just a river in Egypt:
Fox News Channel finished 2018 as the most-watched basic cable network for the third consecutive year among both primetime and total day viewers, according to Nielsen Media Research.

https://www.foxnews.com/entertainment/f ... cable-news
If you look at the figures, FoxNews alone beats the combined audience of what you are calling "mainstream" but for some reason don't get that Fox IS MAINSTREAM MEDIA.

Some 90% of talk radio is of conservative views and hosts.

So yes, I love the inability of many to acknowledge this. Or are stating it is a lack of something else?
