I've played many of the Grand Theft Auto games and performed near enough all the possible horrific actions in game.
And yet, never once have I been tempted in real life to steal a car, mow down hookers, perform a mass shooting, steal military hardware, set off bombs and whatever else.
Maybe I'm weird like that.

No, there's no correlation. Studies have been carried out by respected institutions, and they've been unable to establish any links.
As been mentioned elsewhere, violet video games are played all over the world by millions, if not billions, of people.
The problems are easy access to gun, mental illness, strong lobbying groups and the consequent unwillingness to do much - if anything - about either.

Not to mention a WH that has deemphasized DHS and FBI attempts to get a handle on rising domestic terror threats, as reported today.

What about the "Hitman" series .... has strangling with a Piano wire been rampant recently? Don´t think so....
Lots of sniper games are available? Is sniping rampant everywhere?
"Teacher Busters" used to be a thing when i was still in school, everyone played it .... are lots of teachers getting run down?
"Jack Thompson" is pretty much synonymous for making such claims and failing to show even a correlation in 20+ years...

I agree with your additional list but would strike mental illness. Just like violent video games mental illness is equally prevalent in all other countries, certainly on a relative basis. I have a crazy hunch it’s the other three that make the US the undisputed champion of gun death.

Studies have proven time and again no, I do suspect that popularity of such games is a symptom of a society and media that glorify violence. Just look at what the biggest sellers in games, TV and movies are and I can't help but notice a lot of very violent content. It makes me wonder why as a society we are so entranced by all of it.

His name is the first one that pops up in my head also when I saw the thread title.
Quite frankly, there had been studies after studies that show no correlation between "violent" video games and mass shooting. Hack, if you try to do a mass shooting as if you're playing a video game, chances are, you won't even kill that many people.

To be fair, Japan's preference for game is totally different than US. "Violent games" (i.e. shooters) are nowhere as popular over in Japan compare to US.
While talking about Japan, some of their video game are semi-porn (that will never see the day of the light in US), yet you don't really see an increase in sex crimes over in Japan, either.
Ultimately, easy access to guns is what cause the large amount of shootings (not just mass shooting) in general in US, there's nothing around that.

The mass shooter wasn't quoting Grand Theft Auto in their manifesto. They weren't quoting fortnight. They weren't quoting Call Of Duty. They were quoting the President.

To be REALLY fair, that's just a single mass shooter. The OP is looking for a general trend.
IIRC the whole "Violent Video Game Link" thing dated back to Columbine anyway (along with other things like "Dark Music"...yeah, I'm serious). If anything, though, "violent" video games are a lot more mainstream nowaday thanks to mass market game titles like CoD (among others) compare to 1999 (Man...that felt like eons ago), yet random mass shooting haven't exactly went up by THAT much (although there are definitely far too many of those in US).

There are also a lot more blue hedgehogs stealing gold as well as Italian plumbers travelling through sewers eating mushrooms. Luckily though there are many Russian logistic companies that now have many experts at efficiently packing odd shaped packages.

Mario Kart is an extremely violent game if you think about it. It encourages road rage. You fling weapons at the other drivers. It encourages littering of banana peels.
