Lusitania Museum

Wed Aug 14, 2019 8:10 pm

Here is an article that talks about plans for the new Lusitania Museum in Kinsale, Ireland that will enhance the Lusitania Museum that is already there. I also know that the museum is not far from the underwater wreck of the Lusitania.

I think we should have a Tourist Attractions By The Numbers thread since it's all you've been opening lately.

I think we need an old ships thread too, with the amount of threads about, well... old ships.

I do think that the Lusitania Museum will become one of the most popular tourist attractions in Ireland, since the Titanic Museum in Belfast is already a major tourist attraction with 800,000 visitors a year.

I knew nothing of this until reading this thread. It hasn't had much publicity here at all, for some reason. Some historical stories catch the public imagination, for some reason, and the Lusitania is one of them, albeit at a much lower level than the Titanic (what is it about early 20th century liners?). The idea of a museum is a terrific one, and you'd wonder why it hadn't been thought of before. Thanks for sharing!

Had not heard of it either. Maybe that is a sign of things to come. I doubt it will get anywhere near the publicity or footfall that Titanic Belfast gets. Another reason is the remote location compared to the City location of Titanic in Belfast. Sure you might get some American tourists and one off visits by locals etc.. a few off the ships that call at Cobh ( Queenstown ) but limited.

The Queen Mary in Long Beach, California sees about 1.5 million paying visitors a year, which is about the same number that visit the observation deck of the Sears Tower, the Seattle Space Needle, Las Vegas High Roller, and the Berlin Fernsehturm.
