Filming of Movies in Turkey

Mon Aug 19, 2019 9:49 pm

What made Turkey such a popular location for filming movies in the 2000's and the first half of the 2010's. Movies filmed in Turkey during this time include the Bond movies Skyfall and Casino Royale, Ghost Rider: Spirt of Vengenance, Harry Potter and the Order of Phoenix, Argo, Taken 2, and Inferno.

Taken 2 and Inferno actually had scenes that took place in Istanbul.

Good luck getting Americans to shoot a movie about sneaking out of Iran, in Iran.

The others all probably called for some desert seaside scenes, hell, I dont know.
When wasn't America great?

The Bond movie From Russia From Love had scenes filmed in Istanbul at locations like the Hagia Sophia and Basilica Cistern back in 1963. Another Bond movie had scenes filmed in Istanbul at locations like Maiden's Tower back in the late 1990's.

‘From Russia with Love’ was in the era when the films were more in line with the books.

In the book much of the action was set in Istanbul.

From Russia With Love got the Hollywood film industry in Turkey started and it expanded heavily in the 2000's.
