The classic ringtone from an analogue telephone. It's the most discreet ringtone I can think of and I don't want to get on other people's nerves. Besides, all those public "fun things" like special ringtones or signatures are only funny once. After the second time they are mostly just annoying.

I use that for my text/WhatsApp alert!

For calls, it's just the standard ring ring.

I had that one for years - but was time for a change and Close Encounters is my 2nd favorite movie of all time, just behind One Flew Over the Cukoo's Nest.

"The Imperial March" for the wife, Pink Floyd's "Money" for my daughter & Van Halen's "Eruption" for the boy. Everyone else is on vibrate.

Text: "Margaritaville" for the wife, the Minion Be-Boop sound for my daughter, and the boy sounds like Godzilla. Again, vibrate/silent for everyone else.

Mine is the beginning of Vienna, a song by Ultravox: https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=xJeWySiuq1I

Recently, when my phone rang in a train, a man started to look around in the waggon. Later he told me that he thought something was wrong with the train when my phone rang... (before I will get grilled: I usually turn off the ringing tone in the train but on that day I had forgotten to do so...)

cranberrysaus wrote:

That’s the reason why I never can reach my wife. I always tell her the hypothetical scenario where I, during my business trips in Southeast Asia, will be standing in front of a firing squad and the rebel, terrorists whatsoever will ask me if I want to make a final call (... actually happened to a colleague of mine in Nigeria but it was „just“ a mock execution...), so I will dial her number but she will not answer the phone because she turned off the ringing tone...

This is actually quite funny...

The imperial march for the wife is almost SOP, a former boss had a duck cackling for his wife. He said this almost the same as what he will hear when he answers the phone :flamed:

My phone stays on silent, with the vibration function still on. I've also turned off most notifications. Over time, I found that I was missing everything going on around me due to that damn phone overtaking my attention. I still pay attention to it, just less now that it's not a constant disruption.

I used to have different songs used as ringtones for different groups. Work was Hell's Bells by AC/DC. Family was Crazy Train by Ozzy. For friends I had Difficult to Cure by Rainbow. I had a special song for the boss. Born in the USA, performed by, well, The Boss. Any number not in these groups was indicated by Who Are You by the Who. But then I somehow lost the grouping when transferring the contacts to a new phone. So now it is only the Crazy Train.

Dalton's World from the Inside Man soundtrack for my old boss, because it's dark in ominous just like him - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6PVNYJu-uBg

Unfortunately however it seems Samsung doesn't allow me to customize my message tones, so I'm stuck with the default message ring.

Actually, I just now found out that Samsung places Notification/Message tones in a separate folder than ringtones, so in fact I can actually customize my message tone.

My ringtone for the past decade or so has been the one from Wallender. Most people don't know it but lots of Scandinavians recognise it. Had a funny moment at a mall in Copenhagen a while ago when a few people seemed to recognise it and laughed.

Years ago I was in a café and I/we suddenly heard the sounds of angry cats hissing & fighting. Everyone perked up, looking around expecting to see two brawling cats emerge from underneath a table, only to discover that it was someone's ringtone.

Needless to say, it left quite an impression on me, and I have maintained such a ringtone on all my phones ever since then.

However, when I got married, my wife didn't want the sounds of angry and hissing cats when she called - understandably so. Therefore, I have one individualized/personalized ringtone for my wife, which is a kitten meowing.. ^_^

I’ve used the Super Mario Bros. theme for a while now:

https://youtu.be/uhscMsBhNhw

In the past, I’ve also used Khachaturian’s Sabre Dance as well as Dies Irae from Verdi’s Requiem for certain family contacts:

https://youtu.be/gqg3l3r_DRI

https://youtu.be/up0t2ZDfX7E

For my alarm clock, I mostly resort to the acoustic warning system used in Venice to warn against exceptionally high tides/floods - a combination of WW2 air raid sirens and 3-tone sounds that’s sure to startle me every time (and make me frantically look for my rubber boots before I realise I don’t live there anymore):

It depends on who is calling me. I have different ring tones and different text tones for family and the brosband and strangers.

Speaking of the brosband, he loves the MTV show "Catfish" so when we are out and he hears a very specific ringtone, he starts going crazy because (and I quote) "OMG!!!!! CATFISH IS HERE!!!!"
You bet I'm pumped!!! I just had a green tea!!!

“Leapin’ at the Lincoln” with the Charlie Barnett band, right where the trumpet passage begins. ( https://youtu.be/fBCep2jEB8E, at 0:10)

Special ringtone for my brother: March of the Toreadors because we both liked it when we were kids.

Calls forwarded from home to my mobile have “Komm und Tanz” by Die Goldene Sieben (https://youtu.be/2SgsdkEEWDg, the part I use starts at 0:28)
