Rugby World Cup 2019 Discussion Thread

Sat Sep 07, 2019 1:18 pm

Time to speculate on the rugby world cup. Will the All Blacks retain the title or will we see a Northern hemisphere team walk away with it this time. Personally I hope the man in black will take the title but if I look at the performance over the last few months then I'm not so sure.
Contenders:
Springboks look In pretty good form.
Wales, the new number one team maybe
Ireland?
England?

You're thoughts?

Wales aren’t No. 1, they lost to Ireland today. It would have been a farce if Wales went into the World Cup as No 1. when they have a snowballs chance in hell of beating New Zealand. Ireland have beaten NZ twice in their last 3 games, I don’t mind if they are ranked ahead of us.

My prediction is the All Blacks will win this World Cup.

As a NZer I'm backing the All Blacks. However you can't rule out the Boks, Wallabies & the Irish.

Looking forward to it

As a former SA resident (for three years) and proud wearer of a Springboks jersey when I exercise, my sympathies are for them, of course. I couldn't follow the latest news closely - coverage of rugby is close to zero in my country - but I suspect that the All Blacks will defend their title. Not the worst outcome, I'd say.

Unfortunately not going to Japan, would have liked to. Here the world cup doesn't live at all, football country I'm afraid. I will get my black shirts out and put them on on game day.

First, as a french I have to say I'm not believing my team at all (B. Laporte destroyed our national team structure and he's now head of the federation, what a shame). I actually just hope we're not being too ridiculous. We will probably know our fate this saturday, if we can't win Argentina we will not even go the quarter, and maybe even have to fight hard to at least end 3rd of the group.

I think the WC winner is in the group B, Blacks or Bocks, and they'll meet in final. I'd say the winner will be the same as the pool stage winner, for the psychological impact of the first win, and because the group second would likely have to play Ireland when the winner should have an easier quarter-final.
To pick one, I'll say SOUTH-AFRICA !
Then NZ second, and Wales third (to save North honor and because I just can't say England).
In order to be old and wise, one must first be young and dumb.

The French are definitely in a difficult poule. I wish them all the best but looking at their past performance I feel that a 3rd place in the poule is all the can get. But it's a tournament and stranger things have happened.

Rugby is a popular sport in Japan. They have the 4th largest number of rugby players in the world.

The only teams that have a chance are New Zealand, South Africa and maybe Australia.
