Dow tops 28000

Fri Nov 15, 2019 10:56 pm

Just updating the old 27000 thread.

Record low unemployment, record low minority unemployment, hiring signs everywhere, lower taxes for EVERYONE, 401k accounts up. What’s not to like? Oh, it is Trump’s economy and no Dem is gonna give credit there.

It's good.

As a favor to the rest of the posters, I took out the controversial part intended to divide us

You’re giving him credit then? I judge by results, the economic results are undeniable. Much of the rest is less so.

With any luck he'll get closer to achieving the gains Obama and Clinton had by the end of their first terms. And if he can hit 50,000 by the end of his second term he'd be on parity with Bill. He's the best ever so I'm not counting him out.

PS: just so you don't hurt yourself scrambling for talking points, that chart is fake and before Trump became president so was the stock market.

As stated in every administration - POTUS deserves neither credit or blame for the economy, most of it is largely outside their control/influence. But they take either anyway.

As for your sugarcoated assessment, are we believing the bureaucrats in BLS’s unemployment numbers suddenly because the POTUS changes? Still the same staff in there...

And manufacturing is already in recession by most analyses - ISM’s factory index was 47.8 in Sept, the lowest since June 2009 and second straight month under 50. Consumer spending is keeping longhaul trucking up, but truck cargo prices have plummeted and rail freight is down - AAR reports carloads are down for grain, autos, chemicals and coal. Meanwhile in Canada, where there is no trade war, freight has stayed strong. And most importantly, despite dat robust DJIA, how are Americans’ real wages? Ah yes, that ever present shite growth of 1%. Nominal wage growth is still at half of 1999-2000 levels according to FRB Atlanta’s tracker.

Funny how the same people who cried fake numbers whenever the BLS posted its numbers and that the stock market is not indicative of any economic indicator suddenly swoon over numbers that only show the trend that was started back in 2010.

Dow hit 28,000 today? It didn't get that way overnight, but I understand how you want to believe that the Dow closed on January 20, 2009 and reopened again on January 20, 2017.

Record low unemployment? It's kinda hard to know what to believe because for years we were told about "the REAL" unemployment number (the so called U6), and how that's a much more reliable indicator. That's assuming you don't believe Trump when he claimed that the real unemployment rate was up to 42%.

I will say, my 401k is high...but not like that will do me any good right now since I'm still 29 years away from being able to withdraw (and 40 from my planned retirement). And I'm sure that the Appalachian coalminer, the Midwestern factory worker, and the cornbelt farmer are all ecstatic that the Dow reached 28,000, even as coal mines close, factories shut down, and tariffs dampen crop demand.

But hey...28,000...wooo!

Considering the debt increase only the credit card is keeping the US out of a significant recession.....

How is that trade deficit with China going? The one with the EU has just increased again...... wasn't that supposed to be eliminated too?

Yup, markets react really well to Trump getting impeached, and hence a chance of sane policies returning. Constant up since Pelosi announced it.

The United States record low unemployment rate was 2.50 percent in May of 1953. source: U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics. Lower taxes for everyone, nah, only 2/3's of America got a tax cut https://www.cbsnews.com/news/trump-tax- ... lped-them/ - so that's two falsehoods right off the bat.

As usual, making up garbage claims is par for the course these days. Until one deal in facts, comparisons are worthless. But confirmation bias and cognitive dissonance will not allow Trumpers to look at things objectively. One rally the Liar In Chief claims its $5,000 the next its $7,000 and the next it’s $10,000. It’s none of those. It’s $1,601, and is slower income gains than under either George W Bush or Obama’s wage gains. But you want to believe the orange messiah, so will refuse to acknowledge that things were better under Bush or Obama regarding income growth.

Seriously, use your logic. Do you really think the average worker has gotten an extra $500 a month or a family has gotten a $1,000 a month in the past year or two? If they had the economy actually might grow by the 6% Trump promised vs the less than stellar rate of 2.8% annually.

Meanwhile farmer’s incomes have fallen. These are the Trump voters. Will they show up in 2020 to re-elect someone who is hurting them economically? We will see.

https://www.omaha.com/money/third-quart ... 59c1a.html

Of course these rural, red state, welfare queens, likely will vote against their self interest because of guns, gays/trans, abortions while ignoring their own welfare. But they “deserve” their “aid” and those freeloaders in the city don’t need food stamps....you know, that money that goes right back in the pockets of farmers. SMH

But hey farmers deserve that $15 BILLION per year.

Nebraska and Wyoming: where your welfare dollar goes further!

In Alaska, citizens also receive a yearly dividend check from oil and gas companies for polluting their lands. That is on top of their monthly welfare checks.

Utah is like Alaska with more religious laws and no yearly dividend check. But, hey, as long as you are a member of the LDS church, you are set!

The Dow doing anything is wonderful for people who have the money to invest for retirement or owners of large corporations. The rest of us, not so much. Go to any shop that employees workers for low wages and ask them how they are thriving under this glorious booming economy. Retired people who have to continue to work because expenses are too much. That is why your published unemployment numbers are so low. But, who cares? The libs are pwned because of the Stock Market numbers! All hail the orange one! MAGA! Don't pay attention to anything before 2016 because that doesn't matter....
You bet I'm pumped!!! I just had a green tea!!!

Source? Evidence? Please provide the citation and criteria under which that figure is derived - which median? What income? Average for salaried or hourly? Urban, rural or aggregate? Nominal or CPI-adjusted? It’s just feelings otherwise.

What's not to like? The debt... and the deficit... those are very much not to like given their record levels. Remember when Republicans at least claimed to care about fiscal responsibility?

Still just Moore’s feelings and propaganda, with zero citations or analyses. Actual figures:

Median household income was $63,179 in 2018, an uptick of 0.9% that census officials said isn’t statistically significant from the prior year based on figures adjusted for inflation.

Such hypocrisy.

Under Obama... income is up $1400. Praise Jesus.

Up 5k (adjusted by the way) under Trump. Ah, that’s a bunch of BS.

The leftist media is trying so damn hard to bury this it’s hilarious.

Uh, he called you out for using fake news from disgraced Stephen Moore and you come back with two more opinion pieces from Moore? Stellar.

He could solve every problem on the planet and the left still wouldn’t be happy. They’d probably be more angry because they haven’t done a damn thing in who knows how long other than cry. Believe what ever BS you want.

In other words you still got a whole lot of nothing

Solving every problem on the planet would be incredible, but that isn’t what’s happening. Still doesn’t change that the actual census data reported isn’t the fantasy disinformation Moore is spewing to stay in WH favor.

I agree. What the GOP is doing is quite disheartening.

Record low unemployment, record low minority unemployment, hiring signs everywhere, lower taxes for EVERYONE, 401k accounts up. What’s not to like? Oh, it is Trump’s economy and no Dem is gonna give credit there.

Are we supposed to give him credit for the exploding budget deficit his policies are creating? Or are you going to say he has noting to do with it?

401K accounts up? As 2008 showed us those gains can disappear overnight. Or are you going to say that the good times are going to last forever? By the way those "gains" will never replace the two pension plans I have had frozen. One due to Chapter 11 another one due to the CEO wanting to spend that money on stock buy backs.

Lower taxes? How do you purpose to pay for all those cuts? Seems like the Trump Administration thinks cutting funding for NPR, NEA, PBS, Planned Parenthood etc. While of course increasing the DoD budget to unprecedented levels. Because what better way to fix the gross financial mis-management at the DoD than by giving it more money.

My income went up last year by a considerable amount. That's because I switched jobs. If I hadn't my pay would have gone up a dollar an hour. That was a contractual pay raise making whoever the president is irrelevant.

You know what I find the height of hypocrisy? Republicans over years on their soap boxes lecture everyone about family values, morality, honesty, fiscal responsibility, national security etc, etc. And who do they pick as their leader? An amoral fraud who pays off porn stars, enacts policies that explode the deficit and threaten national security.

Mediocre is the new incredible. It’s ‘aww you get a trophy too!’ for Trump supporters.

Comparing your economic performance to 2 term presidents before halftime is fraught with the potential for epic embarrassment. All the ingredients that helped Bush Jr. and Dickey turn Clinton's blazing economy into a shit show for the ages are right here again. Nobody loves the crack high of massive tax cuts and rampant spending more than Republicans. Think about Rand Paul and the Tea Party Republicans and all the bullshit they spewed out as Obama dragged the world economy back from a precipice invented by the same unregulated Wall Street that invented the Great Depression. Where are they now? Oh, now that they have their $5K they strut around saying how great they are and how over spending and deficits are fake news. This is the real Republican of the 21st Century, the true fountain of hypocrisy, hiding behind and defending a charlatan like Donald Trump while he wipes his flabby ass parts with the Constitution. In 10 years you won't be able to find 10% of the population willing to admit they voted for this stain. The destruction is already here and it's going to get much worse. Crow while you can Fake Conservatives...because the collector is coming.
