Lexus December to Remember ads are back unfortunately

Thu Dec 12, 2019 4:44 pm

For those of us living in the United States, Lexus has decided to torture us with another Lexus "December to Remember" ad campaign. Is it me or are there others out there who think that these annual ads are tacky and soupy?

Why does it matter whether you celebrate "Happy Honda Days" or "Toyotathon" or "Lexus December To Remember"? They are all annoying. Many ads are. Except that one with Zachary Levi. Yes I will follow you to TJ Maxx, Shazam. Yes I will.
You bet I'm pumped!!! I just had a green tea!!!

I have never met anyone in my entire 60 years of life that gave a car as a Christmas gift. If someone can afford to drop $70,000 on a car as a gift, they don't need Christmas as an excuse to do so. Seems a little too Cardashian.

And another thing.... Did you notice that only Fox News can group a Lexus ad, a Viagra ad, and a reverse home mortgage ad into a single break?

We watch Wheel Of Fortune and Jeopardy! every night. I have noticed how different the commercials are between those two shows.

If one has a reverse home mortgage he/she can use the money to buy a Lexus.

Not for everyone... People buy cars all the time and some are more expensive than others; that is just the way it is.

I'm a high school teacher in a well off area; I see it all the time. The teens aren't getting $70K cars, but less expensive cars as gifts is common. I was a high school student in a well off area too. I saw a lot of cars given as gifts even 30 years ago.

Lot of car builders do Christmas related ads showing a vehicle given as a gift; GM does it for sure. They even have a big bow on it. I know of several dealers who sell, or have sold, big bows to stick on cars if you want one. Last year US car sales in December were up over November, so it's likely some of those cars were gifts. I would think most car buyers would be buying a car anyway, but it's fun to say it was a Christmas present to yourself or significant other.

"Toyotathon" is my favorite. It's a tradition. This is the 50th year of "Toyotathon". I have never owned a Toyota, but I do like the ads.

Lexus one isn't nearly as bad as that Chevy (or is it GMC) one where the dude buys two trucks, one for him and one for his wife - she looks at the one he wanted as says "I love it" a couple times and he's too big of a wuss to say "ummm- that one's mine honey." And since they ran this ad last year too, aren't those two year old models now?

Nothing says, "I've really had to go all out for your gift this year," more than daddy getting Sweetums a BMW for fricking Christmas.

Have you considered an ad blocker and to avoid network television for the next month?

Got the ad blocker but I do record NFL games on network TV so I can roll right through ads.

They do cool ads for folks willing to blow cash on an asset that depreciates exceptionally quick.

On a more serious note, December is usually the best month for leasing a 2020 Lexus, as well as other luxury nameplates. I haven’t checked the money factors this year on Lexus, but I’d be surprised if they aren’t the best rate so far this year. If you pay cash or finance on your own December isn’t usually the best month to buy a Lexus or similar luxury car.

For those of you not in the states, or who may not buy luxury cars regularly, you usually get the best deal or value by leasing, as manufacturers hide incentives into the money factoring, so as to not cause depreciation. You almost always won’t see cash back incentives on purchasing anywhere near the incentives hidden in lease deals.

But if they go with the Viagra, they need something with a bigger back seat...

These ads, especially by luxury brands are the car/SUV/Crossover makers trying to reach calendar year sales goals.
