Awww.... That really sucks! Loved watching Neil on drums and he WAS what made Rush what it is.

RIP Mr. Peart, thanks for the great music and performances.

Extremely bummed out.

Pleasant journeys, Neil, and thanks for everything you did for us!

Sad to say your "new reality closer to the heart" didn't exactly take over most people's day to day lives, but we know you tried.

Since we have no links to the news, here are two.

Oh sh.... Very sad news. Thank you for your music. I hear it since I was young and even now I „torture“ my wife and the two girls with it (... I am sure you will forgive me the joke „torturing“, they keep listening to Ed Sheeran, yes, that bloke who makes concerts without drummer, can you imagine...)

At least Ed has some talent unlike the majority or performers today, like for example that twat Kanye.

And I forgot to offer my condolences to his daughter Olivia Louise and his wife Carrie, the woman who saved him and gave him new life two decades ago.

Man, feeling totally gutted at this news. I'm a lifelong fan and I think through 7th and 8th grades listened to nothing else. This is a real shame, 67 is way too young. My heartfelt thoughts and deepest condolences go out to his family, Geddy and Alex. RIP Neil.

That's a great story about the log! Only Neil would pursue a project like that and then write about it in his special tribute way. Now I'm even more bummed.

This is correct on all counts.

I know the others were all right, but Neil's writings and percussion talent are what set Rush apart, and why they were not just another 70s decent, but difficult to answer jeopardy question of a band.

He will be missed, not just by fans but people who appreciate talent altogether.

I was hoping he would have lived a lot longer, but I suppose he got caught up in a Rush.

I was introduced to Rush in 1976.
I saw them on their Signals Tour and for their Test For Echo Tour.

As an almost 40 years Rush fan, I was very upset when this news broke last night in the UK. I saw them live several times too and was in complete awe of Neil's prowess behind that massive kit of drums and percussion items. Given the sheer utter tragedy of his personal life when his kid then wife died so closely together, I was pleased when he returned to Rush after his long journey of personal salvation. And now for this to happen, to such an intelligent, articulate but above all humble man. Long may he rest in peace and for the rest of us the memories are many. Farewell to a king, for sure.

About two years ago we had a nice thread about Rush: viewtopic.php?t=1402197

I also remember a thread about the best drummers and Neil Peart was often mentioned, of course, but I cannot find it.

I love the connection to aviation in that his famous drum solo YYZ is in fact a play off of Toronto Pearson's airport code.

I had read in some interview where Neil said "It's always a happy day when YYZ appears on our luggage tags."

Just watche this a couple times. Started fanasizing of a trubute scenario where a gathering of todays greatest drummers on one stage playing Tom Sawyer and "THE SOLO" simultaneously.

RIP Neil, you were a better man rhan I realized until recently. I regret never seeing RUSH in concert.

I heard the news Friday and felt like I just got punched in the gut. Neil Peart was the master. I’ve loved Rush for as long as I can remember. I won the Chronicles double CD off the radio when I was in HS and played the shit out of it.

I always hate to make comparisons or ‘lists’ of the best fill-in-the-blank people, especially musicians, because there are so many amazing drummers, but other than Bonham (IMO), Peart was a guy who reshaped his craft entirely. Few people have had such monstrous influence on a genre, on inspiring people to play the drums, and be so expressive and innovative. Not just a drummer, but lyricist, percussionist, and all around good dude. And genuinely humble, a rare quality for a rock legend.

Godspeed, Professor.

I've been immensely sad since I heard this news a couple days ago.

The saddest thing is that a large part of the reason he retired was so he could be at home with his wife and daughter. And then to get diagnosed with brain cancer a year later....must have been horrible.

Knowing what a private person Neil Peart is, I'm really glad (and impressed) that no one spilled the news of his cancer over the last three years.

Anyway, I'm so glad I got to see Rush 5 or 6 times over the last 20 years. And so thankful for the music they released over their careers.

Sorry, but to be picky, "YYZ" has drum solos in it, but the song is not a drum solo.
I'm watching Jeopardy. The category is worst Madonna songs. "This one from 1987 is terrible".
