Russia kills 13 Turkish soldiers in Idlib airstrike

Mon Feb 24, 2020 9:48 pm

A Russian airstrike in Idlib on Monday killed 13 Turkish soldiers, at the observation point at Kansafrah and Al Barah. Presumably between the two. This is separate from a previous Russian airstrike in Idlib on Thursday that killed 2 Turkish soldiers.

The fighter jets - heck knows. The S-400 are a done deal and delivered, in the process of coming online, with the crews being trained in Russia at this time.

This whole mess with Syria is surreal really. Just take into account this one fact that the aerial route to supply Khmeimim Airbase from Russia requires overflying Turkey. It is still very much in use. The S-400 are still being delivered and the crews trained, the Turkstream LNG pipeline is very much being constructed.

Seems to me like a deal was made between the heads of state.

So Russians are training the Turkish armed forces which might be used against them in Syria? Why haven't the Turkish just closed the airspace for Russian military craft?
Many happy landings, greetings from The Netherlands!

Just because they have different views on Syria doesn't mean they can't be friends.

Killing people is a pretty safe way to end friendships.....

More like "I pissed of the US, can't afford to piss of Russia too"

So, the Russian and Turkish leaders are supposedly "friends" who choose to express their difference of opinions by killing each others' men. lol

That's why I noted the humor in this whole situation. And for the record it does look like Russia is pushing it by killing regular Turkish soldiers, Turks on the other hand look like are trying to avoid Russian casualties. It's one thing when we level some Turkish mercenaries or radicals they support. If anything it makes a difficult situation for Erdogan and his domestic audience. They prolly wanna see some blood ;)

Turkish backed islamist milita has pushed to take Idlib, including sending artillery barrages against Syrian Army positions. Syrian Army asked for help, and the Russian Air Force helped out. This has happened twice now. Erdogan is not listening to Putin's warnings any longer.

The war in Syria cannot be won by diplomacy. Assad needs to kill all terrorists including those supported by Turkey and the West.
Erdogan needs a way to get out without losing face.
Death of soldiers is expected when you operate in foreign terrain.

Russia and Turkey will remain friendly. Turkey needs Russian Money, Gas and Tourists. Russia needs to keep influence on Turkey to fool around with NATO, US and EU.

He should however get serious with his Opposition.

Well, a couple more dead Turkish soldiers and public opinion wont leave him a choice....
