Favorite Sci-fi/fantasy vessel

Fri Feb 28, 2020 12:54 pm

What Sci-fi or fantasy vessels stir everyone imagination and hold a special place for you?
Are you a Star Wars person who loves the sleek dart like nose of an X Wing? Are you a Trekker or Trekkie who finds something in the brutal elegance of a Klingon Bird of Prey? Does a simple Police call box make you smile wondering if it is indeed bigger on the inside? Do you dream of walking the corridors of a Battlestar?

For me, I have an affinity for what I refer (pretty sure thats just my own head canon) to as the Mk.3 and Mk.5 Arwing from the Star Fox Series (Those being the Type in 64 and Assault).
I also always like the Delta Flyer from Star Trek Voyager. I think alot of that is the hot rod nature of its design and the Way Tom Paris approached the ship itself.

What about everyone else? I'm sure there are some fun answers here.

I like my spaceships grounded in reality.
My vote goes to the Star Fury from the tv series Babylon 5. Followed by the Omega class of destroyers, also from B5.

Yep.

Always been a fan of the Lighthuggers for that reason, particularly the Nightshade.

The series they are from, Revelation Space, is decent in that regard as well.

Well this one can go one forever.... :spin:
I'll go back to my beginning years for this post (there may be others.... ;-) )

For my favorite "realistic" ship, : The Eagle from Space 1999

For a capital ship: Battlestar Galactica (and I think I like the reboot gen 2 better that the first gen)

I'll be back...

As a huge fan of the hitchhikers guide to the galaxy, I should choose the Heart of Gold.
But I’m even more intregued by that ship with its Bistromathics drive. It’s a more interesting drive than the Heart of Gold’s improbability drive.

Either the Enterprise-D or the Imperial Star Destroyer/Super Star Destroyer.

And although seldom seen in TV/film, something about the Nebula-class starship really catches my eye.

Constitution class refit from the 1979-91 Star Trek movies, or the Galaxy class from TNG.

EDIT: every time I watch TNG, the interior sets look like they were made out of A320 cabin parts. Was "slightly curved and off-white" considered futuristic/modern in 1987 :bouncy:?
Stuck at age 15 thanks to the certification date of the A320-200 and my parents' decision to postpone having a kid by 3 years. At least there's Dignitas...

if that doesn't count in the thread, then try this:

It's not the most popular show, but it didn't have transporters or holodeck technology.

The NX-01 did have transporters - they made a big thing out of it being new technology and untrusted in several episodes.

Lovely. I see my namesake ship in there. The large black one near the top centre right. It is an Erebus class ship from the game Eve Online. That thing is around 15 km from nose to tail. And here is what it looks like compared to Manhattan.

Which one though, the sleek craft or the beach ball.

I have always liked the original Battlestars.

I've always had a place in my heart for the old 'Tramp Steamers' of the 1930's or 1950's - Anyone want to go explore for an unknown island supposedly having giant animals, maybe even a giant ape?

The lone adventuring explorer, or with a small crew, out traveling where ever adventure takes them.

Though, back in the 1960's a friend described a Jag XKE as the ultimate cool car on wheels. In that league the J-type 327 Nubian royal starship - has all the others outclassed in that category.
