I would have liked to see the noise of Modi critics if Amit Shah had to prevent that Muslim retreat.
Anyway, as I said before, nobody is in a position to throw the first stone.
You know this one?
Jesus comes to the stoning of the adulterous woman. He says "Whoever is without guilt shall throw the first stone." A stone is thrown and the woman drops dead. Jesus turns around and says "Oh no, not you mother."
(Catholics believe that mother Mary is without guilt.)

That's just stupid. The people in that video are just making it likely that COVID19 will hit them harder.
But there are many people in the world afraid of real information, this has been the case throughout history. Do these people believe that if they can't see or hear what is going on, bad things won't happen?

Malaysian officials on Friday reported that 624 of the nation’s 1,030 COVID-19 cases were linked to the gathering organized by the India-headquartered Tablighi Jamaat missionary movement at a mosque outside of Kuala Lumpur.
Two of the three COVID-19 deaths reported in Malaysia involved participants of the packed event at the Sri Petaling mosque from Feb 27 to March 1.

And yet it’s no different to what you would have reasonably expected to see in some African American dominated areas if COVID had intersected with civil rights unrest in the US.
This type of behaviour is a symptom of that level of disenfranchisement. They don’t trust the government. They don’t trust the police. There are many threads here on why that is the case. Some of us have been predicting this blowback for years now. Dangerous timing. Probably the worst time to ask some of these minority groups to make sacrifices to protect themselves and a majority group that views them as inferiors and has refused to protect their rights - even proactively trampling some of those right.
They don’t fear the virus as much as they fear their own government. It’s tragic for many reasons.

The default reaction if someone feels out of time should be that they give up their ancient belives and/or activities, and try to align more with the modern society.
Instead, what we see among Muslims - throw stones on others and practice your outdated ways in a more extremist way - is strange.

I’ll start with the latter point. It’s not uncommon for disenfranchised or unenfranchised groups to push back at what they see as threatening outsiders intruding on their space. We see this even at the micro level with people : alienated/disenfranchised/abused/post-traumatic individuals often push back - even violently - against the doctors/caseworkers assigned to help them.
I think it’s fair to say these guys don’t go hunting for doctors to throw stones at; they just don’t want them nearby. This isn’t a first, even in the Indian context. We saw something similar happen to that American in the Andamans. Granted, in that case, it was a Christian missionary, so the tune from some posters was very different. That said, doubt an Indian doctor would have fared any better.
Of course there is one difference: no effort was ever made to integrate that Andaman tribe, while a lot of effort, dog whistles and outright abuse has gone into reminding previously enfranchised Indian Muslims that they don’t belong in India unless they either give up their faith, or accept the superiority of Hindus and accept that fairly basic rights, like what they can or cannot eat in the privacy of their own home, should be dictated by their Hindu neighbour. Now they’re not playing nice when their antagonists needs them to play nice. Quelle surprise.
Therefore, while I agree wholeheartedly with your premise that everyone should give up backward ways and embrace modern ways, the conditions for that don’t exist in India. Mainstream Indian society - as it exists in 2020 - is amongst the most backward societies in the democratic world. It doesn’t take much to draw up a laundry list of why: racism (ask the NE Indians or the African students), misogyny, rampant discrimination and hostility across income/caste/religious/state/linguistic lines, greater value attached to the lives of animals than humans etc.
Not exactly trading up, is it? Maybe when Indian society practices what some of its self-proclaimed “modern” proponents preach, it will become a viable option. Right now, for even the most modern and irreligious members of just about every minority religious group in India, joining “modern Indian society” involves little more than swapping one set of backward beliefs for another set of backward beliefs that are more palatable to Hindus.
Worth noting that Muslims (and Hindus) have no real difficulty integrating into modern western societies. No shortage of Muslim doctors etc fighting against COVID for example.

I have seen a Hyderabadi Imam begging these people to identify themselves, get treatment, not to infect and kill their own family and others. He was asking them say your prayers at home, don't go to any masjid.

Considering exponential growth that means that we already reached the number of infections today which we should have reached only tomorrow or day after tomorrow.
It was a meeting from 13-15. March. I also am guilty of not taking it serious enough back then.
But the ignorance my neighbors show today by accepting visits from family members is outrageous.

I think for most people, being with their loved ones in these unpreceedented times is the only antidote. Birla Foundation started a mental helpline service for people. See https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-Phw6IraYLQ . I do hope many people do take its help. Maybe if you know somebody who is lonely or otherwise, feel free to pass on the message.

What are they doing at this time? Going to the doctor? Shopping? Not in Goa at that time. I therefore conclude that visiting friends and relatives is widespread. I thought India early enough took countermeasures. But me staying at homes for weeks together is just a waste of time. Because of these ass holes I will have to spend many more months at home. At least I don't want others to be blamed for what really is the fault of these maybe 5% idiots evenly distributed in the population.

This can be confirmed by this story as well -

It seems just like eveywhere else, we like to under-report our deaths too. I have been reading some of the public health, science articles in the wire and many of them come to the same conclusion, that many diseases are allowed to continue instead of totally eradicating them even when we have means. Is it because private healthcare or corrupt health practises can make money on these are questions left unasked and unanswered.
Even for something like cancer treatment, some of the treatments now in the States can reach upto a million dollars or more so only the very rich can afford it rather than all, while most European countries have free or highly subsidized, socialized medicine which makes it affordable to one and all.

PROGRESSIVE? Can we use the words Progressive and India in the same sentence without adding the word "NOT"?
India today is a society controlled by WhatsApp rumors and Dear Leader, whose word is supreme! Any command issued by Dear Leader is followed by his army of patriotic morons to "T"! This includes his army of followers in Western countries like Canada!
Just last month, Dear Leader issued 2 commands in 2 separate speeches. In one he exhorted Indians to stand in their balconies because according Indian pseudo science, sound frequencies from bells and plates can end any virus including Corona. In the other speech 2 weeks later, he exhorted Indians to switch off their lights and light candles/diyas! And moronic Indians, brainwashed by bigotry and hatred for minorities, put aside all rational thinking, scientific temper and progressive values and followed Dear Leader's orders. An example of collective national stupidity!
Some samples of this collective stupidity of Indias can be found online:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2h-NtZgsSms

Indian Lady driving away Corona
This stupidity could be seen in Indians living in Canada and the US as well - including my relatives.
Americans do not deserve Trump. But Indians showed us atleast twice in the last month, that they are so steeped in prejudice and blinded by hatred, that they truly deserve a Modi!
pune wrote:And this just takes the cake https://economictimes.indiatimes.com/in ... 020010.cms . Just like America bullied India to buy petrol/gas at higher prices with firm contracts, this time too, Trump will get his way, don't think Mr. Modi has the backbone to stand upto him.

Again playing "shoot the messenger" I see!
The "sound energies to cure Corona" line was used by the BJP IT cell itself. Check tweets by Amit Malaviya aka "Emit Malware" - chief of the BJP IT Cell. His tweets on the subject were RT-ed by Union Ministers including the PMO account. Also the dozens of WhatsApp messages on the topic sent out by the same IT cell.
Let us give Dear Leader the benefit of doubt - maybe he did mean that people should clap at a specific time to appreciate the work of doctors. Maybe he didn't mean to draw the connection to all the pseudo-science. But his party workers and govt ministries did spread the message. What are people to believe?
In the middle of a lockdown, people were coming out on streets as can be seen in 1000's of videos online. Is that a rational thing to do?
Compare the public speeches made by leaders of countries like Canada, New Zealand, Germany, France etc. And then compare them to the 2 public speeches made by your Prime Moron! Bang plates at specified hour! Switch off lights and light candles at a specific hour! And so on....!
