Wearing masks in public is a good way to mitigate potential cross infection and return to some sort of normalcy. Better to be free to move in public while wearing a mask than being locked up indefinitely IMO.

Yeah. You can feel good to call it like this in your little country but the rest of the world choose to use another name as a generic and we are much more. We'll see later what nickname the history will keep, given current umbers the "US flu" wouldn't be that dumb.

There will be a larger scale study starting next week.

That study in China is definitely interesting...and basically means more works are needed.

Plus, it seems like all the studies so far are to treat patient with mild symptoms. While that helps with not overloading the medical system, it doesn't change the lethality of the virus itself.

The UN probably regret naming the first outbreak "SARS" because, as is blindingly obvious now, that is just a generic term.
I get SARS every evening when I climb up the wooden hill to Bedfordshire, but after 10 minutes I'm cured again.

Influenza is also a generic term, which is why we have "Spanish 'flu" to denote a particularly significant strain - you may have heard of it?

This time, finally, they have got it right. COVID-19 will either be a one-off, like 9/11, that we will always remember. Or it may indeed re-appear at some future date, possibly starting out from..... Norway... or Australia...or Iceland. And suddenly the name "Wuhan virus" is no longer appropriate.
Likewise a new date could be added so that it becomes COVID-26 (assuming it strikes in 2026)
Or it gets a new name entirely if it is no longer a corona-virus.

With the world's population ever increasing, and air travel becoming easier, it is almost inevitable that pandemics will become more frequent and more destructive. And original sources less and less clear. In my world it was mentioned a handful of times only, a week or so back, along with clear indications it was just mud-stirring by the Chinese, and since then I've heard NOTHING.
Are you perhaps relying too much on Chinese (or possibly Russian) news sources? I can't think of anyone else still carrying this story.

The media continues to be irresponsible. They release articles on people who have died from coronavirus but they never mention if they had any other health issues that would make them more susceptible to complications. They don't even mention if they sought medical attention after testing positive.

considering that you have an administration that uses tax payer money to blackmail another country to help facilitate election fraud to stay in power your outrage should have come in January.

Yeah, and who would ever have thought that leaders like Pol Pot, Stalin, and Saddam Hussein could get away with what they did. I'm sure there were people who tried to warn others of what was brewing. Take away freedoms a little bit at the time so people don't notice. People got more upset about what Rush Limbaugh thought about free birth control than being confined to their homes or having their businesses shuttered.

You might have a point if I was being partisan. I said the Republican mayors and governors should be held accountable as well. They're all tyrants who keep extending the lockdowns. And none of you have answered my question of what woud stop them from making it permanent.
