Moderators to enforce new Social Distancing guidelines

Wed Apr 01, 2020 12:09 pm

A.net community,

The moderators have been asked by the World Health Organization and the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention to enforce new Social Distancing guidelines in the wake of the current coronavirus outbreak.

These new Social Distancing guidelines apply to topics including, but not limited to: Can the 757 line be restarted?, Is there anything more valuable than Icelandic fish?, Is the A321 a 757 replacement?, and Why did (insert airline here) never buy (insert aircraft type)?

Users may continue to discuss these topics, but we ask that they stand at least 6ft (2m) from their screens, frequently wash their keyboards with soap and warm water for the duration of at least two "Baby Sharks", and place a protective mask over their mouse. Additionally, we strongly recommend that users quarantine for a period of at least 14 days after viewing these topics.

These guidelines are effective today, April 1st, and will be strictly enforced for the benefit of the community.

On a more serious note, we realize that you (like many of us) may be feeling the stress of the current situation. While this was an admittedly poor attempt at humor, I think we could all use a laugh now and again — possibly now more than ever —so please be kind to users engaging in April Fools posts today. Yes, it may "ruin" the board for one day, but we'll clean everything up later. Laughter is an important component to mental health, which is a serious issue with so many people confined indoors. Please don't take that moment away from someone else. One day of levity won't break the site, and all will return to normal tomorrow.

There's no way two posts will be enough distancing!

Passenger seating all aircraft should person seat on the window. All middle seat is not allowed. Person seat aisle. It should the same every row. Plane can't be fill seated. Not allow next person. They should guidelines change now.

This is an aviation forum, so maybe we propose that A and B planes be parked two bays apart at all airports? :)

Jet bridges no longer touch the planes, passengers are requested to jump.
All posts are just opinions.

Anyway, WASH YOUR DAMN HANDS WITH SOAP (not the keyboards, please).

That very strict I see. A little money airlines need to make. How about putting pax in bags instead?..... :idea: .....

Don't go on any 3-3-3 787s or 3-4-3 777s. You will be too close to your neighbors.

new social distancing rules require post submissions to be devoid of ignominious statements, or else be forced to an ANET membership behind a paywall!

Beginning today AA will convert all aircraft cabin configs to 100% lie flats. i.e. you will lie flat on the floor. A weight saving strategy too!

Happy April Fool's day my fellow a.nutters!!! We finally made it to April! March felt like 10 years. In all seriousness, I hope each and every member here is okay health wise. And I really hope that we see things get better soon. I also hope if you work for an airline, that this too shall pass, and things will return back to normal sooner than later.

Stay safe out there a-netters. Personally haven't flown in about a year and half now (developed anxiety/fear issues with flying among other stuff when I hit my late 20s). Still a airliner geek though and love to spot. I wish all of you affected by this, whether it be you work for an airline, plane manufacture, travel for work, etc much good luck through these tough days and hopefully a speedy recovery when the smoke clears.

All snow globe proposals must be done at least 6 feet away from cheerleaders coming off of airplanes so that she has the space needed to walk away from you.
Instead of typing in "mods", consider using the report function.
Love how every "travel blogger" says they will never fly AA/Ethihad again and then says it again and again on subsequent flights.

So, are folks in metric counries 8.49% safer than countries (country?) on customary measure? 6 feet is only 91,44cm,not 100.

Just a quick conversion check: 6 feet is 1.8288m (3ft is 0.9144m).

Digging deeper, I think safety is a cubed relationship to distance, assuming a spherical droplet distribution pattern, nil wind, and ignoring floor-level boundary effects:

S = d^3

So if we use 2m:

S[metric] = 2^3
S[metric] = 8

If we use 6ft = 1.8288:

S[imperial] = 1.8288^3
S[imperial] = 6.1164

S[metric]/S[imperial] = 8/6.1164
S[metric]/S[imperial] = 1.3080

So those using metric units are actually 30% safer than those using imperial!

This does raise some further questions though. If we apply the metric physical distancing to an aircraft filled with well-spaced table tennis balls, how will this affect its performance compared to if we apply rhe imperial physical distancing? What if in our metric v imperial thought experiment we now replaced the well-spaced table tennis balls with well-spaced pigeons, all of whom are made to flap at the same moment? And what would be the effect of replacing the runway under our ball- or pigeon-filled aircraft with a conveyor belt?

"Virus spreads globally, kills thousands, whole airline fleets indefinitely grounded"

We would have all called out "April Fool"
