Uses For Grounded Aircraft

Wed Apr 08, 2020 6:15 pm

Because of covid-19, many of the larger aircraft have been grounded because no one is travelling. I am wondering if these grounded aircraft could find alternate uses as homeless shelters or triage units for non-covid patients? Obvioulsy not the ones stored at AVW or VCV but maybe put some off to the side at places like SLC or PDX or take them to smaller airports like VNY or MHR?
You bet I'm pumped!!! I just had a green tea!!!

No.

They don't have sanitary facilities, fresh water to wash or such.

Putting people in them that would turn them into COVID-19 incubators.

Tents, and temporary field sanitation units like the military/ national guard has and are using in some places, is the second best alternative. High school gyms or other community recreation facilities is probably the best answer if there is a need..

Very similar to saying that since you own a car, and currently don't need it to drive to work, why not let a homeless couple live in it?

These are assets that cost the airlines hundreds of millions of dollars to buy, fly, and maintain. Last thing you want is a bunch of homeless people squatting in them for weeks.

Not to mention, a parked aircraft still needs power, and continua water/lav servicing.

I agree. This is not a good idea, and I am surprised it is being lofted here of all places.

There are all of the concerns you have mentioned, plus the fact that airports have suspended No part of SIDA requirements whatsoever. And will not. I do not how this would even happen on any sort of legal basis.

If drinks are complimentary, at least stewards/ stewardesses could be kept in work.
