Shooting at Military Base in Corpus Christi

Fri May 22, 2020 1:51 am

A shooting at the Naval Air Station Corpus Christi appears to be terror related and the shooter is deceased and one person is still at large. One member of the naval security forces was injured and is in good condition. The base was put on lockdown after reports of an active shooter around 6:15 am Centrak Time and the suspect attempted to rush the security gate with a vehicle. Security deployed a barrier to stop the vehicle with the suspect exiting the vehicle and opening fire with naval security forces returning fire. It is a very good situation that no lives other than the shooter were lost and it is a crazy situation out there.

Saw this story developing this morning.

Trying to rush the NAS Corpus North Gate is a bad idea. Even that early traffic is building and the barriers have a depth there to make it easy to completely block access. A couple other times idiots have tried that. Though the main gate is easier on access, the traffic is at least two to three times higher.

We have stayed at the RV Campground at NAS Corpus a few times in recent years.

It was a good thing that security guards were prepared for this.

Quoting from the CNN article you cited:

Authorities previously said a shooter had been "neutralized," but there may be a second person of interest still at large, FBI Supervisory Senior Resident Agent Leah Greeves said during a short press briefing. The agent did not provide additional information.

So to clarify, there may be a second person of interest. Which is not the same as ambiguous "one person is still at large."

Personally, I wish the media would have carried the title "Shooting at entrance to NAS Corpus Christi"
That tells us right away that no one breached the entrance and gained access inside the base.
But it's good click bait by the media to leave that part out of their story headline.

Not too much in the news about this. No surprise there.

Terrorist shot Navy SP in chest, vest stopped it. She engaged him and let him take the room temperature challenge.

Excellent professionalism and performance by the young sailor confronted by the worst possible situation.

(And I say young, because even the admirals are younger than I am.)
