Bully, Coward, Victim: The Roy Cohn Story on HBO...who has seen this?

First words the came to mind...Holy $$$t!

I must confess limited understanding of this guy, nothing beyond hearing what a weasel he was. I had no idea he was like Hoover, a secret vault closed self-loathing gay scumbag....wielding incredible power from the highest offices in the US Gov't!

Even more disturbing he was Lindsay Graham before Ms Lindsay before he/she could skulk about truck stops. He was the worst kind of Jew...ask the Rosenberg family.
A unique kind of Uncle Tom of Gay and Jewish circles rolled into one.

Everyone in the news today is in this flick, except him and Michael Flynn...and this stretches back to the 1950s!

This story must be shown, covered and compulsory for civics starting with secondary schools. This how fragile government can be and the things done in it's name for the most trivial BS!

The Roy Cohn who was a fixer/mentor to the Trumps, especially Donald?
I thought while not famous, he'd be better known, or infamous.
Hated gays, though not enough to be promiscuous with them, died of AIDS, that's the guy?

That's guy, he went gay where Hoover would never dare.

This powerful depiction packs it all in ...sex, drugs, disco (and while I partied at Studio 54, I learned more from this than when I was there), corruption, government...puts House of Cards to shame.

He was infamous enough for Billy Joel to include him in "We didn't start the fire".

Didn't know, only vaguely familiar with the song. Not familiar with Woody Gutherie either much, though going way back apparently he wrote about 'Old Man Trump' Donald's illegal immigrant father and notorious racist slum landlord.
The stench of the vile family goes way back.

Just got done watching it too. Wow! The young photos of Stone were interesting as well. Will watch again.

I do find it interesting that we don't learn more about him in US History curriculums. You learn plenty about Joseph McCarthy, at least I did in my AP US history course, you learn about the Rosenbergs, but you don't learn much about Roy Cohn, at least you didn't 25 years ago. He was pure evil. I'll have to watch this documentary.

There's a fictionalized version of him in Angels in America played by Al Pacino, also on HBO. The story arc deals with Cohn in the last years of his life. A closeted Mormon is clerking for him. It follows him through his AIDS diagnosis and death, and includes scenes in which he hallucinates Ethel Rosenberg and has conversations with her. It's long, but quite good.

Ditto, it's one of those presentations that require more than one viewing to catch everything they throw at it you and very little of it can be refuted.
But what's more stunning is how all those people back then are active players today.

Oh jeez, what til you have seen it..it's blow your socks off.

History taught in my day barely gave a solid review of McCarthy and never touched on Cohn.

I saw Angels and it indeed was a touch n go look at Cohn that went over the heads of many viewers ..but this thing takes it to the hoop and wow..the only left to the imagination is what did they not cover, but just what is disclosed (via his own words) is more than enough to paint a very scary portrait.

But shocking most to me was the detailing of the Rosenbergs...unbelievable!

:checkmark: it is amazing to see how many scoundrels he mentored.

I haven't seen the HBO show, but I watched (on a flight somewhere...) a documentary called "Where's my Roy Cohn?" It was excellent.

Normally I really wouldn't bother, but after seeing 'Bully, Coward....' I'm going to seek out your suggestion.

How this eliminates borders/boundaries between the personal & professional doings and it all interweaves sex, politics, corruption, personal grievances mirrors exactly what is playing out before our very eyes on a daily basis.

It is interesting that the title - "Where's My Roy Cohn?" - refers to something Trump was quoted saying as federal investigators were looking into Russian interference in the 2016 election. And look out for Roger Stone wearing some sort of gray-rat-fur-toupee during one of the interviews; that alone is worth the price of the DVD!

He says it every day, Barr is his lawyer (performing exactly as Cohn would) Barr is not the AG for America, but for the crooked president.

His generals, his officers, his ______fill in the blank.

When he uttered 'Where's my Roy Cohn?", after seeing Bully. Coward. and the Where's my Roy Cohn? doc....it's very clear what he means.

Cohn was the original Ray Donovan fixer, not build from physical roughness, but when he prodded McCarthy in '50s and saw how people crumbled from McCarthy's booming voice Cohn saw that his words wielded power and took off from there. Absolute Power, Absolutely Corrupts - Cohen is the perfect exemplar of that mantra.

Barr, works for him as well as trump, Cohn taught them well.

But when Cohn got sick from AIDS, where were all these 'friends' in his moment of need after decades of being there for them breaking all kinds of laws and rules of ethics....they disappeared with the 'ah man, he can't help us' fuggettaboutim.
