New Flu Virus Discovered in China

Tue Jun 30, 2020 5:31 am

A new flu like strain that has the potential to become a global pandemic has been discovered in China and comes as the world is dealing with the COVID-19 pandemic that also started in China. Very troubling sign and if COVID-19 and this new flu like virus merged, it could create a pandemic of unimaginable proportions.

Sounds more like a reason to buy stock in Pork companies than a particular reason for concern.

I'm no expert but I don't think a strain of Swine Flu and the current variant of the Corona virus could 'merge'

I'd be more concerned if the H1N1 strain merges with the H5N1 strain (bird flu)...now THAT would rival Covid.

This virus has been known about for the past 4 years. I think there is a loss of journalistic integrity going on right now to hype this up in the middle of the current pandemic. This type of stuff is constantly happening. 10%+ of slaughterhouse employees surveyed had antibodies for this already. So it's A: not that bad and B: already been circulating for a long time.

I'm more concerned about the fact that we don't really know what flu virus will be circulating in the next fall because everyone has been locked down for so long they aren't really sure what strains to target as prevalent.

The larger worry is not whether human will get really sick with it (they won't), but the fact that pork price is going to go up again in China.

Not that I care, though. According to their govt their own peeps can survive eating grass anyway.

P.S. No thread from Archguy1 about the current flooding in China?

The N1N1 strains are these, who were responsible for most of the really bad pandemic flue strains of last century., including the Spanish flue 1918, Russian flue, 1977/1978, swine flue 2009., e.g. H1N1 and H2N2 (and the H3N2 of the Hongkong flue which was strongly related to H2N2), were these two flue stain groups, who were involved in most pandemics and also in the most deadly flue pandemics.

Every time, a H1N1 or H2N2 strain pops up, scientists and physicians start to get a little bit nervous, as these have a long history of involvement in pandemics.

What would happen if this new flu virus were to merge with COVID-19?

Nothing. They can and will not "merge". this is not possible. This is real live and not a computer game or the next book of a would-be big hitter.

Please...study virology first.

Influenza virus and coronavirus are totally different in structure. Influenza virus itself is actually well studied and many people do have antibodies. Not so much for coronavirus.
