GOP Convention in Houston Cancelled

Sat Jul 11, 2020 2:43 am

The Mayor of Houston, who is a Democrat has cancelled the GOP Convention in Houston amid a spike in COVID-19 cases in the city. A very good decision, especially when hospitals are overwhelmed.

I for one support the GOP bringing its disease to a confined space--even if they think Covid is a hoax. I'll chip in for the super spreader choir like in Dallas at that raging anti semite's church.

The Mayor represents all of its residents and her job includes to protect her city from the Republican jerks from themselves and infecting 1000's of innocents.

Very good thing that she did so and what will America look like when Joe Biden becomes President in January 2021?

On the assumption that Biden wins, the USA will be in a near Depression, maybe at the cusp of wide distribution of a vaccine, 10's of millions out of work, homeless, in poverty and starving, local governments at near financial collapse, our health care like an impoverished 3rd World country, 300,000 + dead from Covid-19, millions of business gone broke and bankrupt, schools not reopening for in-class teaching until Spring of 2021 - one hell of a mess to be cleaned up.

Would Joe Biden cordon off whatever region is the epicenter of COVID-19 at that point like Trump considered for the New York City area in March.

While there's no doubt that Sylvester Turner is a man, the previous office holder of Houston mayor was female Annise Parker. That could have been the source of the confusion.

Nah. They're missing it up for Harris County Judge Linda Hidalgo, who has been very vocal about stricter measures to fight COVID.

It's interesting to watch Abbott, porno pirate Crenshaw, and the rest of the GOP senile clansmen in TX recommend exactly what they were chastising Hidalgo--with barely veiled racist dog whistles like calling her Dora the Explorer--for doing months ago.

That's a different convention. The one being discussed here is the Texas State Republican convention. The Republican National Convention, where they are going to officially nominate Trump as their candidate for President, is the one that was moved to Jacksonville from Charlotte.

The Texas GOP is suing and trying to equate and outdoor protest by Residents with an indoors convention by outsiders.
https://www.texastribune.org/2020/07/09 ... onvention/

However the GOP is apparently not bright enough to read their own contract

Turner, asked about the lawsuit at a news conference later Thursday, said the party signed the contract in March with a force majeure clause that included epidemics in Houston. That clause allows either party to cancel the agreement if an occurrence "is beyond the reasonable control of the party whose performance is affected," according to the letter Houston First sent to the party Wednesday

JAX outdoors in August. After they've dropped $38MM+ on Charlotte. Fiscal responsibility.

Why was the GOP Convention in Charlotte moved to Jacksonville?

The RNC (well, Trump) insisted on being able to have a full convention - something like 19K people - without masks or social distancing. Our governor said he couldn't commit to that in the middle of June, given the way numbers were trending and there was no way of knowing how bad the situation would be in August.

Trump was trying to play Cooper to give a lift to Dan Forest who is running against him in the fall ,while trying to shore up Florida. Trump may have failed at both issues.

Cooper was right to stand his ground, and Jacksonville is going to have a hard time letting this go on down there.

Thanks, you too! Girlfriend and I have been working from home since mid-March and have limited our trips out of the house. We're taking all the precautions we can because too many others aren't. We have gone to CLT to shoot some interesting stuff that's come in, but we do our best to avoid people.

Looks like Texas GOP is going to go Virtual for the convention. I wonder how long it will take for the national party to do the same thing in Jacksonville.

https://www.cnn.com/2020/07/14/politics ... index.html

The State Republican Executive Committee on Monday night voted to have the convention move to an online setting, hours after the Texas Supreme Court denied the party's appeal to still host the convention indoors at the George R. Brown Convention Center.
The decision ends a whirlwind few weeks during which the Texas GOP fought to have its convention in-person, despite an increase in coronavirus cases in the state and a contingency plan in place to hold the convention online.

I think this is a good opportunity for The Moderates to kill off the tea party for good.

Send all the invites to the tea party faction and let them catch it.

And it is costing the GOP millions of dollars. I can see why companies like holding GOP events. They can probably keep them on the hook for all sorts of frivolous expenses.
