Cognitive dissonance at the BBC

Thu Sep 03, 2020 1:17 pm

A single news report from the BBC today featured the prospect of;

A) Tens of thousands of British tourists at holiday destinations, facing onerous quarantine measures on their return due to sudden changes in Covid-19 requirements

B) The check-in area at Glasgow GLA, with a row of 36 empty check-in desks, except for one solitary person, partially obscured by advertising on a building support column

C) A near deserted terminal at LHR

True, the BBC didn't state there were zero flights out of GLA (I counted 20 departures this morning, 11 international plus 9 domestic), and neither did they state at what hour of the morning the camera crew were filming, but IMO they carefully picked their moment to show things at their worst. There are another 33 departures from GLA this afternoon, 13 of them international. Whilst this is undoubtedly down on normal numbers, I cannot believe the terminals at GLA were as empty as the BBC film suggests.

Meanwhile, the BBC was perfectly happy to show crowded beaches in Greece and Portugal, crowded no doubt with more than just UK nationals, although in the case of Portugal, British tourists represent the largest numbers.
So how did these (British) people get to Greece and Portugal etc, if there were no flights? :scratchchin:

I expect better from the BBC.

*A small confession; I am not 100% certain the above example is truly cognitive dissonance, but in the absence of a better description ..... :white:
Nothing to see here; move along please.

You really expect better from the Beeb? The same outlet that provided total cover for HRH throughout the Diana inquest? Nah.
If you need someone to blame / throw a rock in the air / you'll hit someone guilty

News companies do this all the time at BLV airport, the famous airport an hour outside of STL that is frequently called "the fleecing of America". The airport is by a cornfield in IL, so all the news companies make sure to show that cornfield and talk about how the airport is in the middle of nowhere (which it is) and was a waste of money(true again) but never mention that it is close to STL, making it seem to non-locals that Illinois just built a super modern large international airport in the middle of the state with no surrounding population. Also, since G4 is the main carrier of the airport, and G4 has some of the weirdest schedules ever, they always pick a time when there is nobody in the airport or maybe just one flight to show that there is an empty multi-million-dollar airport in the middle of rural Illinois.
Instead of typing in "mods", consider using the report function.
Love how every "travel blogger" says they will never fly AA/Ethihad again and then says it again and again on subsequent flights.
