Henry Jones Sr. and Captain RamiuSH....my two favorite roles of his. What a loss...is it just Eastwood left of his generation?

Sad day indeed. Man 2020 just sucks. I think it’s Eastwood, Hackman, Redford. Maybe a couple others out there. There are no doubt a few female actresses, but I’m an action movie kind of person so I don’t keep track of them. Eastwood I think is the only one that remains active. Redford and I think Hackman have both bowed out now.

British actors of his generation left are Anthony Hopkins, Michael Caine and Ian McKellen. Not an actor but Sir David Attenborough living legend and national treasure is still alive.

Sean was a legend, it’s a shame he retired, there were many good movies still in him to make which we will never get to see.

Not only a British national treasure, but worldwide. He advocates so much for the environment and wildlife. He's one of those that could read the phone book and make it sound amazing.

When David goes there needs to be a day of mourning. I'll be devastated.

While of course he is best known, will be forever, for being Bond and to an extent being a major lead in big films in the 80's, when he got his Oscar for The Untouchables, for me his best two films are the ones he did with Sidney Lumet, one during his time as Bond as so not a great success, though the man himself said he was very proud of it;
https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0059274/?r ... flmg_dr_39

Then just after Bond, in an if anything even less well known one, which as with The Hill really made me see Connery as a great actor beyond Bond and even his later better known roles;
https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0070468/?r ... flmg_dr_29

To be fair to fans though, they are pretty bleak films.
Don't go expecting anything like 007 or the other great roles.
(But they are also, thankfully, nothing like 'Zardoz' either).

One of my favorite lines from The Rock

https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0117500/:

General Hummel : "The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants." Thomas Jefferson.

John Mason : "Patriotism is a virtue of the vicious," according to Oscar Wilde.

[Hummel strikes him, and he falls to his knees]

John Mason : Thank you for making my point.

I think what made him great in the Bond films was his subtle British/Scottish humor in the role. He was in on the fantasy of the role and of course he got the best looking ladies.
That he made it to 90 makes him a very lucky man. I hope his last years were not in pain, and lived to the fullest.

RIP Sir Sean. Thanks for all the good memories (but seriously... Zardoz?).

Wherever he is I hope he's surrounded by Pussy Galore.

And who might you be?

Pussy...Pussy Galore

I must be dreaming

When I heard those lines I knew he'd get knighted.

RIP Sir, going to see your films as a child was as exciting as the first day of summer, such exquisite anticipation.

Outland

Rising Sun

Russia House

The Hunt For Red October

The Man Who Would Be King

"Thunderball" was the first movie soundtrack LP that I ever purchased.

The Hunt for Red October is my favorite movie. Would be a good choice to watch today, but instead I'll go over my mom's and we'll watch Goldfinger because Sean Connery is our James Bond. I'll have a Rum Collins for Sir Sean (okay, really should be watching Thunderball if I'm drinking that, but so what, I'm crossing the streams).

Haven't seen it, but I wouldn't knock it: I had the good fortune to stand beside the legend as he checked into the hotel where I was working in the early '70s. It was being filmed in the local studios. One of my favourite films of his was Time Bandits: a quirky, interesting little gem.

Good for you for recalling and appreciating the great Gene Hackman, still alive at 90+.

Mel Brooks, another great in his old age.

I really enjoyed him in the untouchables. The James Bond movies, annoyed me however.
I liked him in Steven Spielberg movies with Harrison Ford father and son duo. I think he was very talented.
