Let's talk about your top goosebumps songs

Fri Feb 05, 2021 7:06 pm

Hello, guys. I understand that politics is the hot topic that everybody are talking about...but not every thread in this forum!

Let's talk about your top goosebumps songs?

When I listen to Andrea Bocelli - Con Te Partirò I get goosebumps everytime at the last chorus.

I miss Airstud's silly threads. One was started not long ago and promptly disappeared as if deleted.

Although I mostly like indie/rock kind of genres, I sometimes like to slow it down and listen to some more classical inspired pieces. Some modern pieces that are really worth a listen:

-Experience by Ludovico Einaudi
-Life by Ludovico Einaudi
-The album "Six Lethargies" by Keaton Henson, particularly The Falling and Initium from it. The violin(?) coming in around 6:15 in The Falling is incredible.

To the beach - Merzbow if I am looking for something light.
Stockhausen’s Gesang derJünglinge for friday nights and anything by Derek Bailey or Peter Brötzman for a great party!

«My name is Albert Ayler» is THE record for a chill, jazzy, lazy sunday background listen.

London Grammar - Wasting My Young Years

Jacques Brel - Ne me quitte pas

Archive - Again I've been to 2 Archive concerts, and when you're basically "inside" the music, or the music inside you, and the song goes on and on and on and on and on, it's a magical experience.

The first time I heard that song was at Bellagio in LAS. It was January before the Electronics Convention, so prices were insanely cheap and no one was there. We were drunk, because Vegas, baby, and I remember that song and the fountains and this couple next to us. The girl was sobbing, I was sobbing, her boyfriend was rolling his eyes, the brosband was rolling his eyes. Beautiful song, though.

“When Will I Be Loved” — the harmony on Linda Ronstadt’s version is just pure magic. That first harmony...oh!!!

“Go Rest High on that Mountain” — the harmony again. And then there’s a version that was performed at George Jones’ funeral. Gets me every time. Patty Loveless carries it, and she’s always been one of my favorite singers. https://youtu.be/l11oCvBxnQ0

“Daniel Prayed” — Patty Loveless. https://youtu.be/_vkvcV49lkg

“All the Man I Need” — Whitney Houston. Someone mentioned “I Have Nothing,” and I agree that song is great. But you can hear Houston’s voice at the very early stages of strain in the recording, and she’s clearly over singing. “All the Man I Need,” is just pure magic. Perfectly sung.

“The Best” — Tina Turner. But it must be one of the live recordings. Pure energy high. When I exercise this song can make me forget about the misery of those last five minutes on the elliptical. https://youtu.be/SvCyFHWBUlc

That's one of my favorite music videos of all time. I have a list of about 20. I love the song but I'm not going to lie it's more the girl in the video that gives me goosebumps. The song is from 1989 and is about him approaching Michelle Pfeiffer at a party soon after her divorce or breakup and getting blown off like all the other guys and she is supposed to be her, but she's even prettier IMO.

I would send the YouTube link but Don Henley gets most of his stuff taken down because he wants to get paid. Once in awhile it gets put up but it usually doesn't last for too long.

When Jackie Paper dumps Puff and moves on to other toys I lose it. Yes, a metaphor for growing up but if I had a Magic Dragon I'd still be having adventures to this day. Maybe in secret, maybe not...who cares what others think.

As a musician I have quite a long, non-exhaustive list (with lots of trumpet bias since that's what I play):

Trauermarsch, Symphony No. 5 - Gustav Mahler
Various pieces from the many Star Wars soundtracks (that list would be LONG)
Nearly anything performed by Josh Groban
Children of Sanchez - Chuck Mangione
From the Saving Private Ryan soundtrack (John Williams): Hymn to the Fallen, Revisiting Normandy, and the ending of The Last Battle
With Malice Toward None - John Williams
Theme from Schindler's List - John Williams
Prologue from JFK - John Williams
Band of Brothers Main Theme and Suite Two - Michael Kamen
Poet and Peasant Overture - Franz von Suppe
From the U-571 soundtrack (Richard Marvin): End Credits #1, Quiet Theme (End Credits #2), Finale and Dedication
From the Apollo 13 soundtrack (James Horner): Main Title, Lunar Dreams, and The Darkside of the Moon
Apollo 11 Launch from First Man - Justin Hurwitz
Several main themes from the Medal of Honor series (Michael Giacchino; Christopher Lennertz) : Frontline, European Assault, Vanguard
From the Company of Heroes 2 soundtrack (Cris Velasco): Main Theme and Onward to Victory
From the Valkyrie soundtrack (John Ottman): They'll Remember You and Long Live Sacred Germany
From The Last Castle soundtrack (Jerry Goldsmith): The Flag and September 11, 2001
Hymn to Red October - Basil Poledouris
The Funeral - Ennio Morricone
Opening trumpet solo of Dark Eyes - (Russian Ukrainian traditional song, composer unknown)
Ballad of a Soldier - Vasily Solovyov-Sedoi
Climb Ev'ry Mountain - Richard Rodgers
Miserere - Gregorio Allegri
Libera Me - Georges Delerue

Î must say one of my favorit goosebumps song at the moment is "Deadmans gun" by Ashtar Command. ( https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Yag41F7eCLU ) The song was part of the Red Dead Redemption Sountrack, and I replayed RDR2 lately and really got back into the soundtrack, which is really good by the way (from both games). "Thats the way it is" by Daniel Lanois ( https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HjYLY3BGDY4 ) from RDR2 is also a really good song. The songs are all very melancholic and resigned. So if you are into that you should give them a listen. :)
And a all time favorit is "Stairway to heaven" from Led Zeppelin ( https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xbhCPt6PZIU )

That's a great one.

Little Wing by Jimi Hendrix.

This one doesn't give me goosebumps per se, but definitely makes me cry. Itzhak Perlman''s performance in Schindler's List

Tamino’s Habibi does it every time for me, the range and control of his voice is incredible.

Then there’s the Afghan Whigs Turn on the Water in the Rockpalast recording with Gimme Shelter in the middle. You’ll find few recordings of bands that are so immersed in what they’re playing. This is the reason why I always went to see the Afghan Whigs if they were in the country in those days. They went in deep every time. They aren’t half as good on their albums.

Another one that always does the trick for me is Spinvis’ Club Insomnia, but I’m not sure if this also works if you don’t understand Dutch. It revolves about “eye contact of the lonelyest kind” and discribes moments when the “I” person is very lonely (yet not alone) in some way, ranging from a misunderstanding to being killed.
In this live performance, the band has extreme focus, something I always enjoy a lot.

I have chosen the first 2 minutes 14 to be played at my funeral as they wheel me in. :tombstone:

That's one of my favorite music videos of all time. I have a list of about 20. I love the song but I'm not going to lie it's more the girl in the video that gives me goosebumps. The song is from 1989 and is about him approaching Michelle Pfeiffer at a party soon after her divorce or breakup and getting blown off like all the other guys from wiseessays and she is supposed to be her, but she's even prettier IMO.

I would send the YouTube link but Don Henley gets most of his stuff taken down because he wants to get paid. Once in awhile it gets put up but it usually doesn't last for too long.

Such a masterpiece. Makes me to want to be alive

Yup, I found the video and put in on YouTube, let's see how long it lasts

I am following Rick Beato‘s and Leland Sklar‘s YouTube channels (anyone else, by the way?) and these blockings are so stupid. I already bought about a handful of songs after I heard them on Sklar‘s channel. So why blocking such videos if they help to sell your music?

I am following those channels.
I have also met Leland a couple of times! He’s atleast as fun in real life!
As for the copyright-stuff.
I see the point, there is a bit of a slight blind-spot at the moment for edu-related YT-videos.
But that problem is sooooo small compared to the violent rape of copyright and the value of art for their creators Google and Facebook with their subsidiaries as well as Spotify et al has commited over the last 15 years. It has got to stop. !. It must. We are ruining the arts completely. There are so many sad stories out there of amazing creatives having their livelyhoods ripped from under their feet. Valuable assets completely devaluated. (For me personally I would say there is $20,000/year from old royalties and copyrights and points on credits gone out the window)

Sorry of there needs to be broken a few eggs to save the arts and culture.

Replacing all of art and culture with hypercomercialized sponsored content or hobby-based laptop produced mediocracy just doesn’t cut it .
Copyright is what makes us a civilized society.

So, sorry Rick, for the slight inconvenience.

Thanks for your feedback. Sklar’s daily videos became my highlight of the day...

For those who don’t know: Leland Sklar started a YouTube channel about one year ago and now has 145,000 followers... also a nice source for goosebumps songs..
