That bomb hoax reminds me of the rape accusations against Assange.
Unbelievable what tricks governments use to catch critics.

Unlike some in the aviation community, Brussels Airport is not afraid to express its ‘political’ solidarity with the main victims of this incident:

Not sure if it should get its own thread, but Russia stopped LOT flight 686 as it was entering the runway in St Petersburg for Warsaw. ATC told crew to return to terminal where another dissident was removed, he didn’t even know he was wanted. Flight departed 1.5 hours late.

They could have had him arrested in the terminal, as he was boarding or anywhere else in Russia, but I guess they just wanted to do a show.

And I thought they said FR4978 was a one off ‘political’ event that doesn’t concern the aviation community

Actually they didn't say this.
They said that since it would undoubtedly turn into a political fight, they would have to lock it if it was anywhere else.

Apparently, Mr. Lukashenko is getting a bit...desperate. Now, Belarusian citizens cannot leave Belarus outside of a very limited set of circumstances. Evidently, Mr. Lukashenko is facing a mass exodus of educated and skilled professionals and wants to force them to stay in Belarus. This same national leader who claimed that SARS-CoV-2 was a hoax and that "there are no viruses here" a bit over a year ago is now using that same virus as his justification for the policy.

Belarus can quickly turn either into a Soviet puppet state or a hermit kingdom.

Topic already being discussed in Non-Aviation. Due to it largely being political it will remain in Non-Aviation

But I wasn’t only referring to the moderation here, all of aviation is trying to downplay these incidents and their threat to international aviation, including MH17 and the Navalny mid-flight incident because of commercial interests.

And that is exactly why the (White)Russians are so dangerous to aviation and non-aviation alike. They think and want to prove they can get away with it and aviation and the rest of the world doesn’t seem to care.

Belarus nationals can still leave the country. But only if they can obtain a permanent staying permit in another country...

But even scientists won't get a permanent permit at first, but usually a one-year permit. It seems Lukashenko is limiting the brain drain, while at the same time making sure the professionals abroad won't return to Belarus... and cause trouble.

Pre-COVID, Belarus had a non-border with Russia. No controls whatsoever. Part of the "integration of brotherly nations" game Lukashenko plays for 25+ years now.
I wonder if that remains if not fully open, then at least somewhat porous. Because the rest of their borders are either Schengen (fairly strict) or Ukraine (somewhat strict). No seaways. And now -- no airways.
The lid is shut, the kettle is boiling. Let's see how it goes.

This was an outrageous act by the autocratic regime in Belarus. Hopefully things will eventually improve in time and the people of Belarus, as well as anyone living in an autocracy, be able to break their chains and live under a government they deserve. Lukashenko is nothing but a thug and ought to be dealt with as such.
