Great goal? Badly defended by Austria (Alaba). IMHO Italy played a lousy match; 0-0 after 90 minutes with a more agressive Austria in second half doesn’t give a lot of confidence for the next match against Belgium or Portugal.

Next games are The Netherlands against Czech Republic. I Think that The Netherlands go through as they have played so well this far. 2-0. The second game Belgium against Portugal... Well, anything is possibly. Belgium without KDB or Portugal without Ronaldo would give a great advantage for the other team. I don't predict the outcome that we see many goals and as a football fan I wait that game.

Of course Patrik Schick for Czech Republic. 2-1 for The Netherlands. :D

Deserved 0-2 win for Czech Republic. Wijnaldum and Memphis were just spectators in their own match.

Well, Czech Republic played well and deserved the win. As The Nethelands got 0 attemps at goal, you can't win.

There are millions ways to win a game and today Czech Republic was clearly the better.

Even as I lost my bet, congratulation for the better team!

Great, Finnish fans have brought hundreds of Covid-19 from St. Petersbourg (Russia) to Finland. One (not sure if positive) went immediately to a festival (5 000 people) and all he says is that this can happen he doesn't care.

How elsewhere?

As a Danish citizen, I'm kinda happy we have to face the Czech Republic instead. At least for now :D Take it as a compliment.

Edit:
But apparently our coach would have preferred The Netherlands.. maybe I am severely underestimating the Czech team.

Looked indeed like a literal physical fight a few times especially towards the end. For the most part a boring match. Only the last 15 minutes or so was exciting. CR7 disappointed.. is it because the Portugese national team is not as good as his club mates?

Yeah, actually on the hole it was quite a good sport day for the Netherlands. The way Van der Poel won was way more beautiful then any football match I have seen, and Verstappen proved once again that he really has a shot this year. But football, yeah. I am rooting for Belgium from now on,

Also if Kevin de Bruyne is really injured they are quite lost. Italy-Belgium, Italy is slightly favorite.

Indeed, one of the poorer games apart from the last 20 or so minutes. Belgium's injuries may hurt them now, especially de Bruyne.

Interestingly, all three teams that sailed through their group games with three wins and plenty of goals, struggled in the knock-out games so far, but still a long way to go.

The major thing Belgium learned at the world cup is that sometimes you need an ugly win. I absolutely expected this kind of game. At least the first half.

The worst man on the field was no doubt the referee. He lost control over the game already in the 1st half. He allowed far too much sneaky fouls, or even not so sneaky (see Palhinha pulling Lukaku's shirt). Kevin wouldn't have gotten injured if the referee was in control of the game (because Palhinha would already have had yellow and probably wouldn't have risked that tackle).
Also incomprehensible how Pepe didn't get a red when he charged Thorgan with his elbow.

It would have been a better game with a better referee. And Belgium would have won with a wider margin. And we wouldn't have lost Kevin.

As for Eden Hazard's injury, I think Martinez should have taken him off earlier. After 70 minutes, there was little point in keeping Eden on the field. Bringing in Doku probably would have created more problems for Portugal and prevented Eden from getting injured.

Great goal? Badly defended by Austria (Alaba). IMHO Italy played a lousy match; 0-0 after 90 minutes with a more agressive Austria in second half doesn’t give a lot of confidence for the next match against Belgium or Portugal.

He shouldn't have been that open but once he got the pass his touches and finish was brilliant.

Croatia just let up the equalizer to Spain, Ugh

Lots of ex-Yu citizens in neighboring Germany, Sweden, etc. while Spain just played the first two group matches at home.

In the shock of the tournament so far, Switzerland defeat France on penalties!

France were very poor in the first half with Switzerland deservedly leading 1-0 at half time. Then, nine minutes into the second half, Switzerland are awarded a penalty, which they promptly miss. Within four crazy minutes, Benzema scores two goals to give France the lead. For 30 minutes, France are finally playing like World Champions and Pogba scores what might be the goal of the tournament so far. 3-1 to France and seemingly, no way back for Switzerland. But the Swiss never stopped playing and battled back to 3-2 with just nine minutes left. Astonishingly, they craft a well worked equaliser in the 90th minute. What drama!

While both teams had chances in the first period of extra time, the second period was, as is often the case, a little dull as fear of defeat overwhelms the desire to go for the win. Even then, France hit the bar with almost the last kick of the match! So to penalties....

After nine very good penalties, up steps Mbappe (who'd had a poor match in all honesty). He never looked like he wanted it and of course, his kick was saved. Cue wild scenes for the Swiss. In summary - France played like champions for about 30 minutes, but Switzerland played well for the whole game and, IMHO, thoroughly deserved to be facing Spain in the QF.

What a game to follow the excellent game earlier today. I'm exhausted and that's before England play Germany tomorrow!

Today is day of football I'll never forget. 14 goals and 9 penalty kicks in. I really thought Spain was about to collapse there but they turned the tide. I do love Croatia though, especially Modric being a Real fan.

And you're right about those 30 minutes from France. 90 minutes of that kind of play on a consistent basis and it'd be lights out for everyone else. But it isn't enough to just go 30.

I'm cautiously optimistic for Spain on Friday.

Now let's see who steps up tomorrow.

Whatever the quality of play overall, if you lead 3-1 and there are 10 minutes left, you shouldn't lose, it's really unprofessional ! Put the whole team in front of the goal and wait.

A tight, cagey first half between England and Germany with just one good chance each. This is more like it - 0-0, none of this end-to-end play and loads of goals.

Me too... but in all honesty, this was a deserved England win, congratulations.

Germany was way too passive, had a few periods throughout the game where they were the better team but behaved like they're the better team that's already up 3-0 instead of showing something even remotely resembling offensive drive.
Probably for the best that Löw is retiring now, this team needs new spirits.

I'm still excited about the quarterfinals though, should be some good football coming up, a lot of surprise teams up there that are all hungry and ready to put up a fight.
