And his followers will eat it up. Let's also not forget that, during a 2016 debate against Hillary, she called out him not releasing his tax returns because she believed that would show tax fraud. He said that makes him smart. He is half right: if he does not show his tax returns, we will not know how big the fraud is.

Isn't it ironic how the man that shouted Lock Her UP to a person that was transparent in their investigation, complains about the deep state as they obfuscate their financial dealings?

seb146 wrote:Simple. He kept yelling about the wrongdoing by Obama, Clinton and everyone else, so that the media would hopefully be so busy digging into those stories that they wouldn't think to look into his shenanigans.johns624 wrote:casinterest wrote:Not really. Explain.
All these years we heard him say he could not release his tax returns because he was under audit. Every word of that was a lie. He could have released his tax returns, even if he were under audit and audits do not take that long.
But, if he does not show any information, the MAGA crew can still claim how wonderful he is because they see no evidence. Even when evidence is produced of what a massive fraud he is, the will still claim "deep state" and Hillary and Democrats and "antifa" and blame everyone else but their dear leader. Just like always.

In one of his more stupid moves to date, Herr Trump seems to have admitted to doing the deeds - but claimed that, since "everybody does it", it shouldn't be a crime:

I am betting he didn't ask his attorneys to look over the speech before he gave it...
The Treasury Department must turn over former President Donald J. Trump’s tax returns to congressional investigators, the Justice Department
said in a legal opinion issued on Friday that paves the way for their release after a yearslong fight.
The House Ways and Means Committee had requested Mr. Trump’s tax returns for the years immediately before he became president as part of its
review of the Internal Revenue Service’s presidential audit program. The Trump administration stymied the request and the committee sued to obtain the documents.

IMO Trump can run (away with his tax returns) but he can no longer hide so it's time to hand over those tax returns. The Treasury Department must turn over former President Donald J. Trump’s tax returns to congressional investigators, the Justice Department

It's all about his fragile ego, and I'm willing to bet they'll just prove what the rest of us have always suspected regarding his net worth.

Not sure if this belongs in another thread or not, This has been a long 2 year battle that is outside of the Trump organization purview,. I am sure we will hear this weekend of trump's lawyers suing to stop it.

Trump's will be much more apparent, as he uses depreciation of real estate on his returns which makes up most of his wealth, at least until he established all these PAC's that seem to gain money from people willing to give away their money to a liar.

But I thought there were laws on how PACs can use that money? Not for personal things like bronzer and paying off debts to foreign agents and paying hush money to porn actresses but for actual campaign things?

Yes, but what if a PAC runs a fundraiser with expenses at Trump properties and gets catering from various private entities run by Trump and his associates? 3000 a night for a room. 100 dollar bud lights.......etc

will that really show his net worth since depreciation is based on purchase price value of the structures and does not include the land. it also will not show any debts against those properties, value of bank/stock/etc accounts. additionally he could have some properties that have already been depreciated to zero and no longer be on the taxes

Wouldn't he have to show the value of stocks for tax purposes? Also, isn't depreciation calculated at a specific rate? Like over a certain span of years? Like he could not depreciate his Las Vegas property (for example) over a year but it would have to be over a number of years because of GAAP rules? My mind is a little fuzzy on the meat of accounting but it sounds like that would raise red flags.
