TX GOP cancels museum event examining slavery's role in Alamo

Sat Jul 03, 2021 1:31 am

Incredible the lengths conservatives will go to in order to maintain their safe space free of any uncomfortable bits of history:

State museum canceled book event examining slavery’s role in Battle of the Alamo after Texas GOP leaders complained, authors say
https://www.texastribune.org/2021/07/01 ... -canceled/

"A promotional event for a book examining the role slavery played leading up to the Battle of the Alamo that was scheduled at the Bullock Texas State History Museum on Thursday evening was abruptly canceled three and a half hours before it was scheduled to begin."

"“As a member of the Preservation Board, I told staff to cancel this event as soon as I found out about it,” he wrote on Twitter.” This fact-free rewriting of TX history has no place @BullockMuseum.”

Chris Tomlinson, one of the book’s three authors, shot back on Twitter.

“Lt. Gov, Dan Patrick takes credit for oppressing free speech and policing thought in Texas,” he wrote. “@BullockMuseum proves it is a propaganda outlet. As for his fact-free comment, well, a dozen people professional historians disagree.”"

Ironically, the GOP has now given this book the biggest promotional boost its authors could have dreamed of.

Not that it bothers the Texas Republicans. Their voters aren't exactly the reading type...

It is amazing how much the GOP is resembling fascism these days. Just cancel culture continuing along with a strong dose of racism.

What happened to freedom of speech? This is the party of "patriots" y'all. Freedom for me and my friends but not for you.

So no mention of how CRT impacted this decision by the Texas Lt. Governor?

Try doing something like that in a state like Georgia though........

And speaking of CRT, Texas has put together a "1836 Project" to instill patriotism (or rather, Texas' definition of patriotism) in Texas education:

Texas’ 1836 Project aims to promote “patriotic education,” but critics worry it will gloss over state’s history of racism

It's funny how often Mexico tried to abolish slavery in Texas while Stephen F. Austin fought to keep slavery at all costs.

I'm sure that'll be covered in the 1836 project.
